Funko's Boo Hollow Pumpkin Showdown Card Game

 It seems like last year's debut of the cute little Boo Hollow characters was a big hit. The gang is back this year with a lot of new merch including more blind bag figures, larger vinyl figures, plushes, and more. I was pretty excited to also see a new card game.

I've always been a game collector and a few years ago I got on a horror/monster collecting kick. When I started, games on those themes were few and far between which led me to eBay and collecting older board games. Then there was an explosion of horror games so I started focusing more on Halloween themed. So I'm always happy to see a new release!

A fun, fast-paced card game featuring the spooky-cute characters from Funko’s Boo Hollow! Play Pumpkin cards to throw Pumpkins at the other players, but watch out—they can play cards right back! Roll the special die to grab more Pumpkins, or dodge out of the way at the last second! Whoever gets hit with more Pumpkins takes a Hit card. Get hit three times and your out! Who will be the last one standing?

 

You'll have to forgive my laziness at using product images. I usually prefer to take my own photos when I own the item but at this moment I still have to knock out the final week of Countdown posts so any time I can save is helpful!

The game is really cute featuring the Boo Hollow gang on the cards. It's recommended for ages 6+ so it's easy enough to learn. I even played a quick 3 person game against me and myself.

There are four different colors of pumpkin cards numbered 1-3 plus a few Wild cards which count as any color. To attack, you play any number of matching color pumpkin cards on an opponent. They then roll the pumpkin die to find out if they can draw 1 or 2 cards to help with defense or, if they get lucky, dodge and pass the incoming pumpkins to another player.The target defends by playing cards of the same color that match the number of pumpkins. If you can't defend, you get a Hit card. If you manage to beat their number, you Hit them instead! 

 

It seems simple on the surface but there's some strategy in paying attention to what colors your opponents might be short on, allowing you to hit them more easily.

If you haven't delved into the world of Boo Hollow, this is the time to get on board! I expect they're going to be around for years to come.
