2022 Salem Haunted Happenings Parade

While the spooky season celebrations start gearing up at the end of September, the first Thursday of October is the official kickoff to Haunted Happenings in Salem with the annual parade. This is the 40th year for Haunted Happenings and the 25th for the parade. The theme is "Who is your hero?"

I tried taking photos for you but it being at night and lit be street lamps, they mostly came out like garbage. But what I can share are a few behind the scenes photos of the parade getting ready. They prep in a large parking lot every year and it's always fun to see everyone doing their thing.

This is just a small fraction of the parade. Way off in the back is the Friendship of Salem, a 171 foot replica of a 1797 sailing ship that was built in Salem.

The jeep on the left is obscured by people but it looks just like a jeep from the original movie. These folks are a hoot in the parade when they're accompanied by a few people in inflatable dino costumes.

More jeeps! The one front and center here says Sopwith Camel and has Snoopy piloting his doghouse.

This turned out to be one of my favorites for the Supergirls but I was actually taking the photo for Mary Poppins who is spot on.

You're not seeing double...or triple, these Wednesdays (and one Pugsley) are from Zello Dance Studio.

You can see a few pics from the actual parade at Salem News.

Here's local news coverage.

I did see them shooting some of this but it didn't turn up on TV.

Lastly, here's a decent video of the parade highlights. This one is not the parade start to finish and is edited to only around 20 minutes.

Here's a few things to keep an eye out for

2:16 - Bigfoot
2:55 - Giant Park Ranger Puppet
5:02 - Hearse
5:25 - Ghostbusters
9:41 - Lawn Chair Drill Team
13:45 - Laurie Cabot & Witches of Salem
14:22 - Zello Dance Studios (Wednesdays)
15:12 - Jurassic Park
16:08 - Rogues Armarda (pirates)
17:35 - Custom Jeeps

Here is the "full coverage" of the parade from Salem's local access channel. So if you've got an hour to spare and need that fix of local access flavor, here you go!
