2017 Halloween Hot Wheels - Ratical Racer & Olds 442

Before we jump into the post, I just want to remind you there's still time to enter the October Awfulness contest. Only 5 people have entered so far, so get in on it here and be sure to vote over in the right sidebar even if you don't enter.

Welcome to the first installment of 2017's Halloween Hot Wheels! This year's line up features eight fangtastic rides. I found mine at Walgreen's but I have seen reports of them being found at Walmart as well. Putting together the whole set required trips to various stores and wrangling the final one on eBay.

Let's take a peek at the card art.

A skeleton out for a joyride through a graveyard with jack-o-lanterns lining the roadway. The art also shows off something all of this year's cars have in common: skull wheels! I'm never let down by the card art but I wish they could have done something different with the hanger area and logo so the skeletal driver was more prominent.

The first 2017 entry is Ratical Racer.

This is a relatively new model, having just been introduced in 2013 under the name Bad Ratitude. If I had to guess, I'd say the name comes from the car sort of looking like a rat face with squinty eyes, long snout, and exhaust pipe whiskers. Not all the cars this year have the year on them, but this one does right at the bottom of Halloween on the hood.

Smiley the Jack-O'-Lantern is back on the logo. And that's all I have to say about Ratical Racer. There's not a whole lot of Halloween vibe going on here.

Next up is the Olds 442 W-30.

Fun fact: this body was first cast in 1993 as part of the Demolition Man series.
This version is a bit different though with its large wheels.

The blue metalflake paint job and translucent wheels almost give it a ghostly appearance. Unfortunately it falls into the same low Halloween ranking as Ratical Racer.

Not a very exciting kick off to the 2017 Halloween series but I promise they will get better in the coming weeks!

  1. Nice skull wheels on those! And you have a nice skull background on your blog too. It has that cut paper, Day of the Dead vibe. I got a kick out of the "Bad Ratitude" name. :) It's always fun to see the Halloween car selection each year!
