Sincromillian & Glysentry STELLAR Glyos Figures

About a month ago, Onell Design released wave 104 of their Glyos figures. Many of the figures in that wave are an homage to the 1979 Disney sci-fi classic The Black Hole (I said what I said). I will always, and forever, hold this movie close to my heart. For the love of Mickey, with all the remakes Disney cranks out, I feel like this would be a great one to tackle. I had to restrain myself from getting all the movie-inspired figures to save both my wallet and space.

The figures I didn't get were this V.I.N.CENT inspired drone and one of the Sentry security robot. I picked the STAR version over the Sentry because there wasn't a figure of it when I was a kid. Even with the Kenner Star Wars line, the aliens and robots were my favorite figures. Maybe it's because they weren't main characters and you could make up whatever story about them you wanted. With The Black Hole, I only had the robot figures, didn't really care for the humans.

Being Glyos figures, everything comes apart and all the pieces are compatible allowing you to do pretty much what you want with them.

They did a nice job recreating the Black Hole's dual blasters by simply using separate pieces to connect to the top and bottom of the hand..

This figure is about 2.5" tall and comes with a couple of extra heads and assorted pieces to make your own bounty hunting Murderbot.

Speaking of Murderbots, if you're doing a Black Hole tribute, you gotta have Maximilian! This 3.5" tall chonky boi has got all sorts of implements for entertaining at your next party in your spaceship that's precariously hanging out at a black hole.

You can keep your Johnny 5, your Robbie the Robot, your Terminator, for me Maximilian is right up there with Artoo and Threepio in the pantheon of movie robots!

These guys, and the Sentry, are still available at the Onell Store. If you're a Black Hole fan, I'd also recommend checking out the Onell Blog to see their Golden Book version of The Dark Vortex.

Grid Assassin - Battletribes Glyos Figure

This started out as a DCon Exclusive figure but some were made available later to the public. It actually dropped the same weekend as the Armored Orphan figure but there was no way I was passing on one over the other! Plus, this will fit in nicely with my other Tron inspired figures.

Like any good assassin, he's got lots of gear to get the job done.
He comes with:
3 heads - 2 torsos
belted front skirt thingy
2 pairs of hands - 2 pairs of boots
2 swords - sword "sheath"
staff  - sai - nunchucks

The only thing his missing is an identity disc.

This is what I call the Grid head, very scifi/Daft Punk looking, with the pair of swords. The front skirt thingy (I'm sure there's an actual name for it!) has a loop in the back to hold a weapon. It, along with the weapons and hands is slightly translucent which kinda adds to the whole sneaky assassin vibe.

The back on this torso has a cool disc-like image.

Here's the Ninja head with the alternate torso, hands, and boots.

Lastly, the "Bruce Lee" head with staff. I know it doesn't look much like him here but with that haircut, he's the first thing to come to mind. You can see the sword "sheath" on his back. It's just a little peg with two slots. Simple but effective.

Glyan Armored Orphan - Glyos Figure

Last Sunday, Onell Design had a mini-drop of their latest Glyos compatible figures. It's not hard to see where the latest inspiration came from.

That's right, it's...the "legally distinct, definitely not Boba Fett" Armored Orphan! Like most of their releases, he comes with extra heads and some bonus parts to change up his look. There's a cool ammo belt/bandolier he has which I completely forgot to use in my pics but you can see it on the Onell site.

Mirror Man Figure - Rocom Toys

The mad geniuses behind the Mighty Maniax line of figures dropped some new additions recently and there was one that stood out that I just could not pass up!

Mirror Man may or may not be based on a pop star with a smash hit horror music video from the 80s. The facial likeness is pretty amazing! You can almost hear a ghostly "heee-heee!" in the air.

Mighty Maniax - Fishstik Figure

Toward the end of 2020, Rocom Toys launched the Mighty Maniax Kickstarter which ended on Halloween night. These are a very cool line of 3" tall horror and video game inspired figures.

In addition to the base figures shown here, there are also ones that might remind you of Friday the 13th's Jason or Texas Chainsaw's Leatherface. The great thing about these is that they're Glyos compatible which means you can swap parts not just between the Maniax line, but with any other Glyos figures too!

Each figure comes with three heads and a trading card. I, of course, jumped at the chance to get a new interpretation of the Creature from the Black Lagoon in their Fishstik figure.

He may look a little more shaggy than scaly and that's because the body sculpt for the monster style figures is the same. The head and the paint apps make all the difference. He may be only 3" tall but these figures are chunky and have 10 points of articulation.

Here it is with the wolf head.

And the ape head, or as I call it, swamp-ape.

Here's the front of the trading card that came with it. The card features an image of whichever figure you ordered. It's got a nice gold foil border and logo.

And there's more art on the back. I'm not sure if the backs of the cards form a larger image if you put them together but it wouldn't surprise me!

If you want to bring home some Mighty Maniax, you can pre-order them from BigBad Toystore.

Glyos meets The Mandalorian

Just before the season 2 finale of The Mandalorian (no spoilers!), Onell Design dropped wave 89 of their Glyos compatible figures and boy did I have to keep myself from spending all the monies!

In addition to these fine fellows, there's also some other familiar-ish faces in the forms of stormtroopers, Mandalorian commando, Greef Karga, IG-series assassin droid, and even a Mon Calamari. Head over to their page to see pics of all of them.

Meet the Glylorian! He's got a pistol, cloth cape, and his rifle slung over his back.

Or if he needs to get somewhere fast, he's also got a fashionable jet pack. Like most Onell figures, he comes with a couple of different heads too.

This is Quallgru. Could be Grogu or if you slap the included lightsaber-like accessory in his hand, he's Yoda!

Lastly, I picked up Neiboto, who is inspired by the droid Q9-0 from Chapter 6: The Prisoner. I doubt they'll ever make an official figure of this character which was why I had to get this version. Plus, the metallic paint looks amazing.

While I leave the other two in their 'original' forms, I used some of the extra parts on this one to change him up. There's an extra piece on top of the torso to give it more height and I kind of get a kick out of the smaller head on the bigger body.

As of this writing, only this guy, the Mon Cal, Karga, and the Mandalorian Commando are still available from the Onell store.

Battle Tribes - Grid Wave

A couple weeks ago Spy Monkey Creations let loose their most recent wave of Battle Tribes figures and this time they're going back to the game grid!

Credit: @Battle Tribes

As you can see, this latest wave of figures is an homage to the original 1982 Tron figures by Tomy. To say I was thrilled about the announcement would be an understatement. Luckily, I was able to grab the whole wave as they sold out pretty quick! Let's get a closer look at the programs.

First is the Grid Avatar in the role of Flynn. If you're familiar with the Battle Tribes figures, you know that each figure comes with multiple heads and weapons. Since we're looking at four figures, I didn't take a ton of pics of the different combos you can make with each figure. If you want to see all the parts, head over to Spy Monkey Creations.

I don't know what the official names of each type of figure are but I call this one the barbarian. Mainly because it comes with a Conan-style head and a furry vest. The shield is the closest thing any of the figures have to an identity disc and I'm a little disappointed no one else has one but I understand when they do the figures, each "style" has its own accessories.

Here's the Avatar with barbarian head and vest, although you can't really see it. They did an outstanding job with the digital markings on all the figures, especially the tiny back of the hand ones. I used a blue light here to give him a more electric look.

I got the colored lights I used at a Dollar Tree of all places! They're little plastic things that are meant to be worn on your fingers but they work great for shooting action figures.

This is the Grid Enforcer, taking the part of the Warrior. With this goblin/imp head I think it looks like a nasty virus that could infect your system. I used the Dollar Tree lights again here. They really light up the translucent plastic.

Here we have the Grid Overlord, standing in for Sark. In addition to more "normal" accessories, he's got a claw hand and a big mech fist. I usually call this one sci-fi guard because of the heads and chest armor piece.

Each of the figures has a couple of  glow in the dark accessories and one GITD head. The glowy bits are a natural way to go with Tron inspired figures but in my opinion, the heads don't work that well because they have no details colored in like the regular heads.

Fighting for the User is the Grid Champion. This guy is a wrestler style figure, which means he gets a little sidekick and a bunch of food heads, similar to the Spicy Pumpkin figure I talked about a couple months ago. Not my personal favorite style of figure because it's got a variety of heads instead of weapons.

Tron himself stopped by to show the Champion how to sling a disc.

Battletribes Spicy Pumpkin Figure

Just a few weeks ago, Spy Monkey Creations unleashed Wave 19 of their Battletribes figures. In every wave there is usually one figure that I have my eye on, sometimes I get them, sometimes I don't. But there was no way I could pass this one up!

Laaaaaaadies and geeeeeentlemen!
I give you, Spicy Pumpkin!

How can you pass up a pumpkin headed wrestler? In the usual Battletribes release, you get assorted weapons or monster-ish accessories. But with the wrestlers, you get lots of heads, a minifigure, and a few extra goodies. What's cooler than multiple heads?

Reversible heads! That's right, those two pumpkin heads turn around for an orange and an apple with a bite taken out of it! Is it still an apple if it's orange in color? Does that make it an orange apple?

When the wrestler figures were introduced, they also brought along the tiny wrestler and some really wacky food heads. In this pic, the big guy has an alternate pair of boots.

Say hello to Big Beef and Side of Fries! Beef is sporting an alternate pair of trunks which are usually the standard for Battletribes figures.

The last pair of heads also go well with the pumpkin ones for a Halloween vibe. The final accessory is a Champion belt. So all told, you get the two figures, two pairs of trunks, two pairs of boots, the belt, and 8 heads (2 reversible).

You can grab your own Spicy Pumpkin at Spy Monkey Creations along with figures from past waves.  If you're like me and not that into wrestlers, there's a variety of fantasty based characters to choose from too. This is a great line of figures to get into and they're all Glyos compatible!

Battle Tribes Action Figures

For quite awhile I'd been seeing posts on Instagram of the Battle Tribes figures by Spy Monkey Creations. Usually by the time I saw the post, it was long after a new wave dropped and I missed out. Then, I finally decided to get my act together and tune in and they may be a new minor obsession of mine.

One of the reasons I love these figures is they take me back to the 80s. They combine the best of Battle Beasts, action figures, and have swapable parts. Plus, they're fantasy themed so that doesn't hurt either! The figures are 3" tall and are are fully compatible with other Glyos figures like the sci-fi themed ones from Onell Design.

Here is the Bone Shadow Demon from two waves ago.

In this set is: a body, cape, two weapons, wings, six heads, and two pairs of feet (booted and taloned). This give you a crazy amount of options for displaying your figure! One of the great things about this line is that they frequently release a figure that very closely resembles another figure or character.

For example, you can make the Remco Skullman.

Na-na-na-na-na-na-NA!
Bat Guy!
This is one of my favorite setups.

Or you can go full on horned demon lord with battle axe.

The real reason I decided to post about these figures (not that I need a reason, I mean, they are pretty great) is the DX Primitive Adventurer. I about lost my mind when I saw it go up for order and you'll see why shortly.

The figures seem to lean toward one of two general types: monster or humanoid. Monsters get the wicked wings and taloned feet while humanoids get a few more weapon choices and a different head mix. Here, we've got a body, six heads, three weapons, a shield, and a fashionable battle vest.

The triceratops head is cool but looks a little weird to me in a human flesh tone.

This one is a little dark on purpose but makes it hard to see the head. It's sort of like a wolf head mask with green eyes. He could almost pass for a primitive Batman.

But this...this right here is what made this a must buy when I saw it.

You make a figure that resembles one of my all time favorite Saturday morning shows and I am there! I'm just hoping they'll get around to making Ariel and Ookla. I think it'd be great if they introduced a female figure to the line for more variety.

If you want to check out more Battle Tribes, head over to Spy Monkey's shop where these two figures are still available. And be sure to tune into their Savage Realm of the Battle Tribes FB group to stay up to date on release news.

Mailbox Invaders - Glyos Drop

These guys landed a few weeks ago but I haven't had time to properly photograph them for posting. I've been getting bored (and frustrated) with my usual impromptu photo studio. I wanted to get these outside for a bit more scenery than a single color background.

First is the pairing of the Glyan ROU Operator Cane & Reydurran Mimic Armorvor. My very first Glyos purchase was an Armorvor but I think the black/red color scheme makes this one better looking. I'm not very familiar with the Glyos universe story so I'm not sure what Operator Cane is supposed to be. I'm saying he's a robo-bodyguard for the Armorvor.

Each of their heads has another face on the back. They also came with an additional head each. Cane's  reminds me of a Trans-Former and the Armorvor's is similar to my other one's wolf head but is gray. I swapped the guns that they came with originally. I think the large barrel weapon is a bit more fitting for the Armorvor's brutish frame.

Second is the Deep Space Glyan Reydurran Science Division, a figure I missed out on during the last drop. There were two things that sold me on this figure, the helmet and the jetpack. As much as I dig his retro-astro aesthetic, he's got a big problem.

Deep Space Glyan Reydurran Science Division glyos toy figure

The issue I have with him is his jetpack. The peg that plugs it into his back is too short to hold it on there well. Unfortunately, I can't pick him up or move him without it falling off and then it's a minor pain to get it on again and oriented properly.

The back of his helmet looks like an inverse of Cane's head in the photo above. He came with two extra heads that look great but sadly can't be used on him. The helmet he has attaches to a peg and the extra heads have pegs on them instead of holes. I know the whole point of the line is to mix and match parts but I really wanted to check out the heads on this body. Without the jetpack he looks more like a galactic grunt trooper and that's not too bad either.

That minor gripe aside, I'm still looking forward to adding more Glyos to my collection. Someday I'll get around to picking up some spare parts so I can experiment.

Mailbox Invaders - Glyos Figures

If you're a fan of classic sci-fi toy lines like Battle Beasts and Z-Bots, you may be familiar with the more recent Glyos line by Onell Design. And if you're not, you should be!

Glyos are part action figure and part construction toy. Every Glyos part is made to be interchangeable with other Glyos parts. Think about that for a minute. Imagine being able to swap arms, legs, heads, torsos on every Star Wars/GI Joe figure you had!
These figs come in around 3" tall and plenty of articulation.

I wanted to show off my recent addition, SRU Commander Arclurran Sarvos. He's actually my second Glyos figure. My first one was Verexxan Armorvor, which is very Battle Beast-y.
Here's what I got with the Commander...

3 heads, 2 upper torso, 2 lower torso, l/r arm, l/r leg and 2 kerchief kind things (2nd row, left). This is one of the coolest things about getting a Glyos figure, they always pop a little something extra in with your order. I should note the hands and feet are also removable.

Here's a few pics of the Commander in different combinations

Check out those belt pouches!
Alas, poor Horvax, I knew him well...
Invisible surfboard

I didn't used to follow the Onell Design blog closely so I didn't even know when this batch of figures was going on sale. I was lucky to be watching Twitter when it happened. They sell out quick so you have to know what you want to get your order in. It's not easy trying to pick just one! If I had more time to decide, I probably would have gotten a Deep Space Glyan instead.

But I do like the Commander. I've got plenty enough parts to change him up every once in awhile. My only teeny-tiny complaint about him is the left arm being straight out with no bend in the elbow. It looks odd to me where his other limbs aren't so rigid. But like I said, it's a very minor nit to pick. These figures are a great value for the price!

Here's a few shots of the Armorvor.

I don't know why I went with this color.
There was a red/white version that's much more dynamic.
The head has two sides to it...

and here's the other side. He's also holding his gun. I think it's a gun, it kinda looks like a toy spaceship! He also came with an extra head...

Head Swap!!
