Star Wars "Stained Glass" Hammerhead Custom Figure

I only just found out about Plastic Vomit Customs after seeing this post on Instagram from GI Jigsaw. And them I immediately went to PVC's Instagram and order one of these bad boys because it's just something I need in my life.

Way back when there were only 20 Star Wars figures, Hammerhead joined the line up. Like a lot of Gen X, I was the perfect age when Star Wars hit theaters and was instantly obsessed. While I had to have every figure (it was much easier then!), my play adventures didn't stop with the main heroes. I was really into the droids and aliens.

In 1978, we had one sequel novel and about a year of Marvel comics to carry on the story. The galaxy was wide open for making up your own stories, especially if you were a seven year old kid. Hammerhead usually teamed up with the other cantina aliens to form a bounty hunter gang. When you've only got Darth Vader, a "Death Squad" Commander, and a couple Stormtroopers for baddies, you gotta shake things up once in awhile.

Out of the initial 20, my favorites were Hammerhead (still my all-time favorite Kenner figure), R5-D4, Power Droid, Death Star Droid, and Snaggletooth. See? There's a pattern! I distinctly remember taking Hammerhead and R5 with me whenever I could. I don't know what it is about Hammerhead that made me glom on to him so much. Maybe it's the weird head, maybe it's the soothing aqua bodysuit.

And that's what brings us to this Root Beer candy looking fella here: Plastic Vomit Customs Stained Glass Hammerhead. He was 3D printed using transparent resin and is gorgeous! He looks so much better in person, but maybe I'm biased.

Plastic Vomit Customs has a lot of other amazing vintage style 3.75" figures, and not just Star Wars inspired! My next purchse is probably going to be a Sleestak figure!

You can check them out on Instagram. There are links there to their Facebook and eBay pages as well. (Pro tip: stuff is cheaper on IG and FB.) Some of the IG posts are for limited run figures and some can be ordered on demand from their post.

Monthly Media Recap - May 2025

Seen anything good and/or unusual lately? Let me know in the comments, I'm always on the lookout for things to watch.

Linked titles will take you to a trailer

Series

Cobra Kai (S6, Netflix)
It probably could have been a season shorter to cut down on some of the soap opera theatrics. I'm not even a big Karate Kid fan but I think they did a good job of making Lawrence into someone you end up rooting for.

Deli Boys (Hulu)
I only found out about this show because the stars were on After Midnight, but I'm so glad I did! It's funny, the actors are great, and it's got some twists and turns as two bumbling brothers try to run their recently deceased father's drug operations.

Andor (S2, Disney+)
Not only do the themes this season hit hard in the current political climate, but it's an all around example of great TV. I don't think I've seen any episode of television like ep 8 where I was not only on the edge of my seat but a little sick to my stomach with dread seeing all the pins being setup and waiting for them to fall. If it doesn't win an award for costuming, I think there's going to be another kind of rebellion.

Star Wars Bounty Hunters Card Game (2024)

I happened to see someone post about this in a Facebook board game group and pretty much ordered it immediately. Who wouldn't want to play a game where you get to play bounty hunters?

The other reason I ordered it is that I really like the art style they used. Some of the characters have a very manga-esque look to them.

Here's a few of the bounty hunters in the game. All the ones from Empire Strikes Back are in there as well as a couple from The Book of Boba Fett. Below them are some of the droids you can "purchase" to help take down your targets.

And these are the targets and contract cards. To "capture" a target, you have to play hunters and/or droids on them to beat all three color shields. Bounty points (top left) start high but each hunter you play reduces the score. Droids don't have an effect on score but cost credits.

Contract cards are a way to earn more points for your bounties. For example, with the first one, each time you capture Qi'ra or Solo, you get one point. (Yes, you can capture targets more than once, they must be pretty hard to lock up!) If you have them both, you get a total of five points, one for each and three for the pair.

I haven't played yet but did read through the rules. It seems like it could be fun but a little weird that bounty hunters negatively impact scoring. Wouldn't it make more sense to have to pay the bounty hunters credits? That's what they do!

Also, the contract cards have odd pairings of characters. But these are minor complaints from someone that wants the game to stick to the lore of Star Wars as much as possible.

You can read a review, and detailed explanation of how to play, over at BoardGameGeek.com.

Star Wars Hunters Mobile Game

Launched last week on June 4th, Star Wars Hunters is a free-to-play, squad based 4 vs 4 game for iOS, Android, and Switch. Between the various game modes, playable characters, and customization options to unlock, there's plenty to keep you busy!

I didn't know if I was going to be into this initially but I always check out new Star Wars games. I haven't had great experiences with shooter type games like this on mobile in the past but after a couple rounds to get my virtual footing, I was really enjoying it!

Monthly Media Recap - May 2024

May was an odd month for movie watching. It was front loaded with the second weekend of Salem Horror Fest and a couple of other films. There was a long lull and then I packed in a couple more at the end of the month.

There's a lot to cover but I promise if you stick to the end (or just skip there) you'll see something truly original and wild.

Series

Bad Batch (S3, Disney+)
What a great way to end the series! Star Wars animation has been knocking it out of the park, mostly...see below. I really hope they continue to do long form story telling because it gives the characters time to shine and grow. I'm a little sad to leave this crew behind but knowing Dave Filoni, they'll probably turn up again.

Tales of the Empire (Disney+)
This was good but much like it's predecessor Tales of the Jedi, I don't enjoy the less than 20 minutes episodes telling a fragmented story to fill in some blanks as much as the ongoing series format.

X-Men '97 (Disney+)
I'm still trying to catch up on the 92 series but man this was amazing! And my boy Nightcrawler finally gets his moment in the animated spotlight. My only minor complaint is that it felt like they crammed in too comic story lines without really giving them time to breathe.

Cult-tastic! Tales from the Trenches with Roger and Julie Corman (Tubi)
This 13 hour (!) series is more Corman than even I could want. Each hour long episode is dedicated to a specific type of Corman flick like SciFi, Fantasy, or Monsters. It's fun not only hearing stories about these movies but also seeing clips from unfamiliar ones. I finally finished the series just a few weeks before he passed.

Star Wars Doorables

Disney is at it again with their successful Doorables line of tiny, cute versions of beloved characters but this time, they're off to a galaxy far, far away.

I haven't gone too far into Doorables in the past but I do have the Nightmare Before Christmas and Haunted Mansion sets. I've picked up an occasional impulse buy when I see the assortment contains characters I want to get...never do end up with the ones I was hoping for.

But with the Star Wars license, there's not any character I wouldn't want! Doorables are a blind pack series so you never know what you're getting. Unless you go online and look up the codes that people have figured out that tell you what's in each pack. Mrs Dex thinks that's cheating but I call it targeted acquisition.

There's a few different options, so let's pop open one of these Death Star balls first.

After eight seasons and three movies, I have completed my Psych journey...at least until the next movie comes out. I stopped posting about finishing each season because there wasn't more for me to say. The show blazed its way into my top TV shows of all time thanks to the writing and characters. I love it!

American Nightmare (Netflix)
This true crime doc about a young woman's kidnapping did not go where I thought it would. The most horrifying thing about the story isn't the abduction but how the victims were treated by law enforcement. I don't think I've ever felt enraged after watching a documentary before.

Twisted Metal (S1, Peacock)
My sum knowledge of the game series is some kind of demolition derby with tricked out vehicles. Oh, and there's an ice cream truck. The series definitely delivered and was a ton of fun. It brought me back to SyFy's (or were they still SciFi then?) series Blood Drive which I also love. I haven't seen Mackie is much outside the MCU but the dude's got serious charisma. It better get another season!

Given that this is only an hour, they don't spend much time with each movie. I have a couple of problems with this list. First, Galaxy of Terror is listed and shouldn't be anywhere near here. Second, Troll is on here and not Troll 2?!?

Star Wars Rivals by Funko Games

I first heard about Star Wars Rivals during the lead up to this year's May the Fourth "celebration." (May 25th will always be Star Wars Day for me!) From what I saw it was going to be a Walmart exclusive and in conjunction with the Fourth, they were supposed to have events or something to kick off the release.

Now that I'm actually reading the Funko game site, the starter set was available for pre-release online at Walmart starting 5/4 with wider availability in June. Still doesn't explain why I haven't seen any until a few weeks ago. Update: I stopped in Walmart today (7/27) and they had the starter set next to the action figures but the boosters are still in the game section...two aisles apart!

No Starter Sets to be found, just a lonely, single box of booster packs near the board game section. Luckily, you only need one Light Side and one Dark Side to play the game.

We'll break it open after the...well, break.

Haul-iday Highlights 2022

Back from the holiday break with the annual showing off of holiday loot!

We'll kick it off with the Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special Funko Pops.

First up we have Groot and Peter Quill. Groot is looking better here than he did in the actual Special itself, I am not a fan of that costume. Quill's got a Santa hat (which you can't see much of here) and a wrapped gift. I'm glad they did these so I can bring them out every year to give a Guardians tweak to the holiday decorations.

Drax has his "little man" lawn ornament and I just love it! Also loving Mantis' festive headband. What I'm not loving? The fact that you can only get Holiday Rocket in an Amazon exclusive 5-pack. Booooo!

Streaming

Andor (Disney+)
Star Wars or not, this is just great television! If your Star Wars needs to have Jedi, aliens, and lots of action, this may not be for you. But if you enjoy good writing and personal stories it's absolutely worth your time. It may seem slow at the start, but I promise you it all pays off. Cannot wait for the next season!

Guillermo del Toro's Cabinet of Curiosities (Netflix)
Overall a pretty solid anthology of eight horror stories. I've seen Lovecraft fans not happy with the two adaptations here but I haven't read those stories in quite some time and thought they were decent.

Unsolved Mysteries (S3, Netflix)
Even though they spaced out the new episodes, I still went through them quickly. I don't think I knew I had a thing for true crime until this series started up. They're not all crime, a couple are unexplained phenomenon and the UFO episode is pretty wild!

Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special (2022, Disney+)
This was a good way to revisit the Guardians again while waiting for the next movie. They do get into  "wacky antics" but it's all good holiday fun. My one problem with it is what the flark happened to Groot?! He looks like he came from a third rate theme park.

Rhode Island ComicCon 2022

This past weekend was the annual Rhode Island Comic Con. This was only my second time at this show, the last time being in 2018.

I have to say, having just attended Fan Expo Boston a couple months back, the RI show was definitely better laid out. Making use of three locations really helped space out the people. I did also go on Sunday, which is usually less busy than Saturday so that probably helped too.

The main draw for us here was Jared Padalecki from Supernatural and Walker. There's some kind of contractual thing that prevents Jared from doing Supernatural appearances unless the con is hosted by a specific company but that's okay because we went to panels for both shows.

Spooky Droids

Every year, the Disney Droid Factory releases new holiday figures for Halloween and Christmas. These are park exclusives and if you don't know someone you'll be paying scalper prices on eBay for them. You can sometimes get lucky and catch them on ShopDisney too.

Luckily, I'm in a friendly Facebook group and managed to pick up this year's figure plus a friend I missed out on.

2022 brings R7-FNG to join the line of eerie astromechs. He's got a whole vampire thing going on complete with a widow's peak and fangs!

Monthly Media Recap - August 2022

Here we are two months until Halloween! Things will probably be a little quiet on here for the next month as I'll be putting my normal blog time towards cranking out 31 posts for the blogger Countdown to Halloween.

There's quite a few trailers this month because some of these just have to be seen!

Streaming Series

I happened to catch a recent ad for this on the CW so decided to check it out from the start over the past couple months. It's like Cops with a workplace camera crew but they're dealing with supernatural things. The main characters are not the smartest but it makes it that much funnier to see their encounters.

Midnight Mass (2022, Netflix)
Late to the game here despite hearing great things about it. Definitely a slow burn but once it's lit, there's no putting it out! The religious crazy combined with the horror elements is very well done. I'm not the biggest fan of the monster type featured (no spoilers) but this actually got me to enjoy them. Highest of recommends!

LEGO Star Wars Summer Vacation (2022, Disney+)
This was kind of cute. Definitely not canon as it hops all over the timeline. I'm not thrilled with how the Galactic Cruiser Halcyon is being pushed into everything because it just feels like marketing synergy. I know, I know, that's what Star Wars does but it starts to feel really forced (ha) after a comic series, this special, and another upcoming novel set there.

Light & Magic (2022, Disney+)
If you have any interest in special effects, this is a must watch. It's pretty amazing all the things that have come out of ILM being formed. It was awesome to see all these people whose names I knew growing up talking about their experiences at ILM. It's got some great home movie footage of them at work and even the odd Star Wars behind the scenes stuff I haven't seen before.

Star Wars Black Series - Nalan Cheel

Who knew it was going to be a cantina band member that got me to order a figure from Hasbro Pulse? I just had to get him!

Why this one? What is it about a cantina band guy? As a kid, there were three figures I felt were sorely missing from the original Kenner Star Wars line-up: the Rebel Fleet Trooper, Tarkin, and the cantina band! They had Hammerhead and Snaggletooth, aliens that were barely in the movie, but no band!?

Monthly Media Recap - June 2022

Hope everyone has a happy and safe 4th of July!

If you're looking for something to watch over the long weekend, check out the Tubi app. It's completely free with ads but has movies you won't find (don't want to find?) anywhere else and some fun classic shows like Buck Rogers, Battlestar Galactica, and The Greatest American Hero. I'm just starting on the Logan's Run show because although I know I watched it, I don't remember any of it.

I am in no way affiliated with Tubi but the titles below are Amazon affiliate links. Even if you don't want anything I'm talking about, use the link and buy yourself something nice. I'll still get credit for it.

Series

The Flight Attendant (S2, HBO Max)
Kaley Cuoco is just fantastic in this, even better than last season. Her character evolution is something else! The writing on the show is great, not just the characters but how the story keeps you guessing. I feel like they've done something fresh with this show and I hope it comes back.

Kenobi (Disney+)
Star Wars fans can be very vocal about what they don't like but I prefer to focus on what I do like and I liked this series quite a bit! It gave me things I was expecting in ways I wasn't expecting and a lot of stuff I wasn't expecting at all but enjoyed. The young actress was perfectly cast and is just so darn adorable.

Star Wars Action Figure Playing Cards

There was a time, years ago, when I could say I owned every deck of Star Wars playing cards that was put out. Now, they're just cranking them out. I think they're going too niche in the quest for more money. At any rate, my point is that I can't catch em all anymore but will pick one up that strikes me.

And how could anyone that grew up with the original movies, and toys, pass this up? For a lot of fans my age, the Kenner line is just as much a part of our love for Star Wars as the movies themselves. Before you could stream anything, even before VHS was in every house, the toys let you have your own adventures whether you wanted to recreate the movies or make up your own stories.

Monthly Media Recap - February 2022

I slacked a little getting this post ready so no witty chat at the top.
Here's what I consumed in February.

Series

The Book of Boba Fett (2022, Disney+)
I'm still a little mixed on this. It had some great moments (mainly flashbacks and finale), a really bad moment (that cartoon chase), and a lot of pretty okay moments. My main "issue" with it is I just didn't feel Fett was very competent in the 'modern' timeline.

All of Us are Dead (2022, Netflix)
This is where a lot of my movie time went this month. I really liked it from the start, ain't no zombies like Korean rage zombies! It had a lot of good character interaction, which they might have been able to trim an episode worth to tighten it up just a tiny bit. Still a good time and something fresh if you're Walking Dead out-ed. Might be the most competent military zombie response I've seen.

Monthly Media Recap - January 2022

I somehow managed to movie myself out early in the month. About halfway through, I just didn't feel like watching movies! That was kind of an odd feeling for me because I'm almost always down for something.

Anyway, here's what I did watch last month. If you saw something worth mentioning, let me know in the comments.

Series

Cobra Kai (S4, Netflix)
The dude soap opera continues with more fighting and more drama! How many more Under 18 Tournaments do these kids have left in them? Not extremely familiar with the movies so the end of this season was a mystery but I'll figure it out.

80s Top Ten (Disney+)
Each episode of the series covers a specific Top 10 topic like Ads, Fashion, Toys, etc. If you weren't around in the 80s, I don't know if you'd even find this interesting. So much of this is being in the culture at the time. I suppose it'd be good for younger folks to laugh at their parents.

Crime Scene: The Times Square Killer (2021, Netflix)
This is split about 40/60 between the titular killer and how sleazy Time Square was back in the 70s. Oddly, the murder part wasn't as interesting to me as the history of Times Square.

Glyan Armored Orphan - Glyos Figure

Last Sunday, Onell Design had a mini-drop of their latest Glyos compatible figures. It's not hard to see where the latest inspiration came from.

That's right, it's...the "legally distinct, definitely not Boba Fett" Armored Orphan! Like most of their releases, he comes with extra heads and some bonus parts to change up his look. There's a cool ammo belt/bandolier he has which I completely forgot to use in my pics but you can see it on the Onell site.

Haul-iday Report 2021

Hope everyone had a happy and healthy holiday/New Year. I've been catching up on other blogger's holiday hauls so I thought I'd join in, even if it's a little late.

This is not a personal photo but I wanted to find something fun to start off the post!

We'll kick it off with these awesome Adventure Time Matryoshka dolls. This is not an officially licensed product and I love it all the more for that. You can tell the artist used this actual set for inspiration because PB's pose is pretty much the same. But the "real" set only has 5 dolls while this one has 7. Finn stands around 5" tall to give you an idea how freaking tiny BMO is!
