S.L.U.G. Zombies Series 4 Hunters

If you've got swarms of little green zombie figures, it only stands to reason they need someone to fight against, right? Here are the remaining figures from S.L.U.G. Zombies Series 4: the humans! Please excuse my playing with the photo filters.

Buckskin Bill

S.L.U.G. Zombie series 4 buckskin bill
He's stopped on a dime because that's the only way he'd stand up
Survival Skill: Wrote the book, "Survivial Skills"
 Likes: His trusty sidekick, Rascal
Dislikes: When Rascal has an accident
Favorite Quote: "Who waits 'til you see the whites of their eyes? Just shoot!"

Ah, another zombie hunter out of time. It only makes sense considering the wide variety of time periods the zombies are coming from. Bill's decked out in the standard Daniel Boone frontiersman gear, complete with flintlock rifle. He's also got a coonskin cap, except his isn't dead! That's a great example of taking the figure just a bit further to make it funny.

Johnson

S.L.U.G. Zombie series 4 Johnson

Survival Skill: Sure fire aim
Likes: Unloading two guns at once
Dislikes: Cleaning out her hamster's cage
Favorite Quote: "They call me...Johnson."

Twin pistols, fingerless gloves, tiny backpack, ponytail. There's no question what video game vixen inspired this character! I have no idea why they went with the name Johnson though.

Sawblade Sampson

S.L.U.G. Zombie series 4
 sawblade sampson

Survival Skill: A saw for a hand, a shotgun in the other!
Likes: Sharpening his sawblade
Dislikes: Being asked to carve the turkey every Thanksgiving
Favorite Quote: "How about a haircut? I'll start just below the chin."

I hesitate to even say this is "inspired by" because the resemblance is dead on. Sure it looks more like a giant electric carving knife than a chainsaw but I'm not telling him!
Hail to the king, baby!

Play-It-Safe Sammy

[No photo on record]

Survival Skill: Run & hide
Likes: His industrial strength hazmat suit
Dislikes: Sharp objects
Favorite Quote: "Don't forget to wash your hands!"

Sammy is playing it so safe, I don't even have a photo of him! He's the only figure from series 4 that I don't have but I'm not concerned. As you may guess from his bio, he's decked out in a full body hazmat suit and is toting a machine gun. Personally, when I think weapons and hazmat suits I'm thinking of a flamethrower. But that's just me.

And that wraps up Series 4 of S.L.U.G Zombies! Will there be more? The site's poster checklist shows graphics for Series 5 and 6. Hopefully we'll get some news on the future of S.L.U.G.s from New York Toy Fair later this month.

S.L.U.G. Zombies Series 4 Stragglers

Today we're cleaning up the final remnants of S.L.U.G. Zombies Series 4 zombies. That may sound like it came from the department of redundancy department, but there's still one more post coming to cover the Series 4 non-zombies. There's no theme linking these together which is why they're all piled into one post.

Dismembered Dennis

s.l.u.g. zombies series 4 dismembered dennis

Previous Job: Head Engineer
Likes: Overnight shipping
Dislikes: Return to sender
Favorite Food: Sweet & Sour Sternum

Probably my least favorite Series 4 "figure." Sure, he looks ok in a diorama but there's not a lot of play value for a dismembered zombie in a stack of crates. I suppose you could paint him up to look like a murder victim instead of a zombie and set up your own mini crime scene. Looks like this guy (puts on sunglasses) went to pieces. YEEEEEEAAAAAHHHH!!!

S.L.U.G. Zombies - Wastin Away Again

Here's another trio of gruesome ghoulies from Series 4. This group is a bit more loosely connected than the last group. Why I feel the need to put them together by theme?
I don't know.

Jamaica Me Sick

s.l.u.g. zombie series 4 jamaica me sick reggae rastafarian

Previous Job: Guitarist for Jimmy & the Moaners
Likes: Voodoo & incense
Dislikes: Da mon, mon!
Favorite Food: Jerk Chicken with Mashed Toes

Is he a zombie or a sun-baked beach bum with a guitar? Either way, he probably smells about the same. JMS is a middle of the road figure for me, not great and not horrible. At least he's missing both shoes.

Gangrene Gene

s.l.u.g. zombie series 4 gangrene gene

Previous Job: Tiki bar mixologist
Likes: Parrots & Gettin caught in the rain
Dislikes:  Disobedient dogs
Favorite Food: Key Lime Kidney with French Fried Fingers

I'll get to his dislikes in a minute but first, let's check out the detail on Gene: patterned Hawaiian shirt, lei, a single earring and a tropical drink (maybe a piña colada?) in a skull with a tiny umbrella. And he's still got both his flip flops. He's a great figure!
Oh yeah, forgot to mention his gnawed on right leg and missing hand...

Ferocious Frankie

s.l.u.g. zombie series 4 ferocious frankie dog

Previous Job: Pet to Gangrene Gene
Likes: Fire hydrants & squirrels
Dislikes: Rolled up newspapers, Piece Mail Pete
Favorite Food: Whatever she can sink her teeth into!

Frankie is maybe the only figure whose bio specifically mentions other S.L.U.G. Zombies. Piece Mail Pete is a mailman from series 1. She's also only the second animal that's been released, the first being the lab monkey Mr Jingles from series 2. It's hard to see in the photo, but she has a bandana tied around her neck.

Because it mentions she is, or used to be, Gene's dog, there's no doubt that she's got Gene's hand in her mouth. The two of them even come in the same 3-pack! These two look great setup next to each other, instantly making a scene.

S.L.U.G. Zombies - Burgers & Brains

Stay cool, daddio! Today you're going to meet some not so swingin cats from S.L.U.G. Zombies Series 4. I got a lot more figures to feature and these are all thematically linked so we're throwin caution to the wind and taking on not one, not two, but three brainy boppers.

Let's all go to the lobby.
Let's all go to the lobby.
Let's all go to the lobby and grab ourselves a shotgun.

2 Scoops-Too-Late Steve

s.l.u.g. zombie 2 scoops too late steve series 4 jakks pacific

Previous Job: Ice Cream Man
Likes:
Slow cruisin' & exact change
Dislikes:
Freezer burn
Favorite Food:
Orange Screamsicles

Steve's got all the details to make a winning figure from the coin changer on his belt to the tiny pen in his pocket. At first glance, I just presumed he had a normal ice cream cone. Then I noticed something hanging off the back of it. Closer inspection showed it's not ice cream, it's intestines! And to top it all off is a nice juicy eyeball! And look! He's missing one shoe!

Gruesome Gabe

s.l.u.g. zombie gruesome gabe series 4 jakks pacific greaser

Previous Job: Slacker
Likes: Zombie rumbles
Dislikes: Preppies
Favorite Food: Grilled Head Cheese Sandwich & Maggot Malt

What drive-in or burger joint would be complete without a nogoodnik greaser hanging around? Just check out that chest wound. He's also sportin a cool leather jacket (minus a sleeve), a tough guy chain and three quarters a pair of sneakers. This guy has one of my favorite face sculpts so far. Oh yeah, did I forget to mention it's not easy slicking your hair back after you've been dead awhile?

s.l.u.g. zombie gruesome gabe series 4 jakks pacific greaser

Moldy Moxie

s.l.u.g. zombie moldy moxie series 4 jakks pacific carhop waitress

Previous Job: Carhop waitress
Likes: Drag races at the drive-in
Dislikes: Pennies & personal checks
Favorite Food: Ice Cranium Sundae

While Steve's tending the counter, someone has to be bringing food out to the cars. And Moxie's the right gal for the job with her skates, they even have stoppers on the front. I just wouldn't let her stick anything to far in your window. And what's that on her tray? It looks like Gruesome Gabe's favorite: Grilled Head Cheese Sandwich & Maggot Malt! I'm not sure what happened to Moxie, but it looks like someone got fresh with her..

s.l.u.g. zombie moldy moxie series 4 jakks pacific carhop waitress

I don't know about you, but I love 50's car culture, burger joints and drive-ins so these figures really knock it out of the park for me. More figures to come next week!

S.L.U.G Zombies - Decomposing Dan

The S.L.U.G Zombies are starting to pile up around here like...um...like a stack of dead bodies. I you've been on the fence about picking some of these guys up, Target has them on clearance: $5 for a 12 pack and $2 for the 3 packs. You can't beat that with a dismembered arm! Series 3 seems to be the most plentiful around me. Today I found eight cases of Series 3 coffins at one store!

The most recent series 4 I've only found briefly at one store but managed to get almost all of them in one shot. Jakks Pacific did something a little different with Series 4. In previous series you had to buy the 12 pack and all four of the 3 packs because each 3 pack had one unique figure in it. So you'd end up with 8 duplicates of ones you got in the 12 pack.

With Series 4, two of the 3 packs are all duplicates of those in the 12 pack. You only have to get the other two 3 packs to complete the 16 figure series. Good news for collectors, but I'm not sure what this blowout clearance means for the future of these lil green guys.

Now that I've thrown lots of numbers in your face, let's get on with the introductions!

Decomposing Dan

S.L.U.G. Zombie Jakks Pacific Decomposing Dan Series 4

Previous Job: Painter
Likes: Muscle cars & candy bars
Dislikes: Working overtime
Favorite Food: Peanut butter n' belly sandwich

Now the first thing you might notice about Dan here is that someone decided to give him a hand with his painting. Ok, it's more likely that he took it from someone...along with their forearm! He's also got quite the nasty wound on his right knee where you can see bone poking out. No happy little trees for this painter!

I'm guessing that's his tongue hanging out between his teeth because you know, when you're making arts you do that thing where you stick your tongue out to make it come out better. It would have been kinda fun if they made it his ear instead, a la Van Gogh. Like plenty other S.L.U.G. Zombies, he's missing one shoe. Somewhere in this city is a massive pile of mismatched shoes. It's a conspiracy!

Decomposing Dan is a great example of what the typical S.L.U.G. Zombie can be.

If you have spares figures and want to trade, check out the Toy Trading tab and maybe we can swap some zombies.

SLUG Holiday Zombies - Santa Claws

SLUG Zombie logo holiday christmas jakks pacific

Day 10 of Creepmas brings us to the final holiday SLUG Zombie!
He comes packed with Eli the Expired Elf and Gator Jones.

You better watch out  you better not cry,
But if I were you, I'd light up that chimney to get ready for...Santa Claws!

jakks pacific holiday slug zombie christmas holiday santa nick kringle undead

Previous Job: Father Christmas
Likes: Online shopping with free delivery
Dislikes: Small chimneys & picking up reindeer poop
Favorite Food: Cartilage cookies with sour milk

Ol' Saint Nick looks like he's had a bit too much eggnog. His clothes are a little torn, he's missing part of his right boot and he's got a sort of spaced out look on his face.

Having looked at all 8 holiday SLUG Zombies now it seems a bit odd that very few of them are zombified to the same extent as some of the figures from the regular line. Maybe they were figuring since these are holiday characters they'd just make them look monstrous instead of gross...except for Frozen Fright with his ribcage.

Have a look at what Brian from Cool and Collected did with his Santa Claws!
More pics at the link.

Someone recently sold a whole customized set on Ebay

I hoped you enjoyed these tiny terrors as much as I did photographing them.
There's still 3 more days of Creepmas to come so don't touch that dial!

SLUG Holiday Zombies - Eli the Expired Elf

We're getting close to the end of the holiday SLUG Zombies!
Today we have former helper Eli the Expired Elf.
He comes packed with Santa Claws and Gator Jones.

SLUG Zombie jakks pacific holiday christmas undead elf

Previous Job: Production Manager at North Pole Industries
Likes: Buttons & shiny things
Dislikes: Height requirements
Favorite Food: Candy brain canes

Eli doesn't look so much undead as overworked and stressed out. Personally in that pose, I think he could be a lost Festrunk brother that moved from Czechoslovakia to the North Pole.

SLUG Holiday Zombies - Frozen Fright

SLUG Zombie logo holiday christmas jakks pacific

Today's post was planned in advance and I happened to watch Jack Frost last night. Not the Micheal Keaton one, the one with the killer mutant snowman. They could have put this guy in the movie and it would have made a more convincing snowman.

They say revenge is a dish best served cold and Frozen Fright would probably agree.
He comes packed with Johnny Hammer-Stix and Buck Wilde (no, he's not a porn star).

jakks pacific holiday slug zombie christmas frozen fright snowman frosty
Previous Job: A cumulus cloud
Likes: Skiing & bird watching
Dislikes: Springtime
Favorite Food: Spleen sorbet

Much like Nutty Nate, I'm guessing the zombification process can't happen until the normally inanimate object is brought to life by some holiday magic. But that doesn't explain the ribcage on a snowman!

Could this have been someone in a snowman costume?
Did he eat someone?
Or were the kids that built him anatomy majors?

SLUG Holiday Zombies - Johnny Hammer-Stix

SLUG Zombie logo holiday christmas jakks pacific

Today's SLUG Zombie marches to the beat of a different drummer.
Johnny Hammer-Stix comes packed with Frozen Fright and Buck Wilde

jakks pacific slug zombie holiday christmas johnny hammerstix

Previous Job: Drummer Boy
Likes: Fresh cut grass
Dislikes: Rain on his parade & broken drumsticks
Favorite Food: Carcass casserole

Johnny has a wonderfully manic look on his face. His drum is falling apart but I think he's having so much fun with his drum sticks, which ironically aren't drumsticks, he won't notice.

SLUG Holiday Zombies - Surprise Demise

SLUG Zombie logo holiday christmas jakks pacific

The sixth Day of Creepmas finds a nice present waiting for you.
Only don't get too close, because it's hiding a Surprise Demise!
Surprise Demise comes packed with Ralph Reindead and Blazin' Basel.

Previous Job: Host of Children's TV Show
Likes: Practicial jokes on his co-workers
Dislikes: A bad sense of humor
Favorite Food: Funny bones

This is an oddly specific description but doesn't really look like anyone from pop culture.
The sculpting on this one is very detailed. You can see he's got on an argyle sweater, shirt and tie. But the crowning (pun intended) piece of this figure is the large ribbon/bow that's stuck to his head from popping out of the present box.

SLUG Holiday Zombies - Ralph Reindead

Day 5 of Creepmas is one of the most special of all, for it is Krampusnacht!
You can read more about Krampus Eve in my post from last year or, better yet,
head over to The Spooky Vegan.

SLUG Zombie logo holiday christmas jakks pacific
Today's featured holiday SLUG Zombie is Ralph Reindead.
He comes packed with Surprise Demise and Blazin' Basel.

Previous Job: North Pole Petting Zoo
Likes: Guiding Santa's Sleigh, going down in history, playing reindeer games
Dislikes: Going to the vet
Favorite Food: Berries in brain broth

Ralph's not in good shape. His upper right arm looks like the fur, if not the flesh, has been stripped off. He even has some froth sculpted around the corners of his mouth! I'm not sure what happened to his midsection, but Ralph is ripped! I know I wouldn't want to find him
on my rooftop Christmas Eve.

SLUG Holiday Zombies - Nutty Nate

SLUG Zombie logo holiday christmas jakks pacific

The second of our holiday SLUG Zombies is Nutty Nate.
He comes packed with Hungry Humbug and Captain Payback.

Previous Job:  De-Sheller at Hudson's Nuts
Likes: The Ballet
Dislikes: Squirrels
Favorite Food: Macadamia Membrane

Being a nutcracker come to life, Nate doesn't have a lot rotting or parts hanging off of him.
You could probably paint him up to look like a crazy Russian!
Except his nutcracker mouth would look a little weird...

SLUG Holiday Zombies - Hungry Humbug

The fine folks at Jakks Pacific unleashed a holiday themed surprise for all us SLUG Zombies fans in the form of four holiday themed 3-packs. I believe they are exclusive to Target. For some reason it seems they're being stocked with the regular SLUG Zombies and not in the seasonal section where you normally find the stocking stuffer toys.

I'd been checking several local stores for them since I heard about them a few weeks ago. Then last week I decided to go on a little road trip to hunt for them. I was also traveling to the closest WalMart Supercenter to look for the limited Gingerbread Oreos as well (found those too!). Now that I've gone an hour away to get these, I imagine they'll show up locally soon!

SLUG Zombie logo holiday christmas jakks pacific

Each of the 3-packs has two zombies and one human/hunter in it. The human figures have been previously released so you're only getting two brand new figures per pack. But believe me when I say the new figs are totally worth it!

First up is Hungry Humbug. He comes packed with Nutty Nate and Captain Payback.

Previous Job: Millionaire
Likes: None
Dislikes: The Ghost of Christmas Future
Favorite Food: Shepherd's Thigh

Looks like this Scrooge took a bite to his right forearm. Could it have been from Tiny Tim?

I'll be bringing you the remaining SLUG Holiday Zombies throughout Creepmas, so stay tuned!

Be sure to head over to the Creepmas site and visit all 40 participating blogs!

League Post - Shelf Expression

This week's League assignment is a fairly simple photographic request:
Post a photo of a shelf of items that displays your love for pop culture.
It's a little cluttered but if you click for a larger view you can find all kinds of stuff here.

And I couldn't just let it go at one. Here's the top 4/5 of another bookshelf.

Here's what other League Memembers are showing off

Mailbox Invaders - SLUG Zombies Series 1

Thanks to Twitter user CRPechonick, I am now six steps closer to my plan of SLUG zombie domination! After exchanging some tweets and pointing him to my Toy Trading page, we figured out we could swap six figures that each other needed. And it's a good thing too since Series 1 only showed it's severed head in my area as the single blind packed figures.
Now I only need one more to get all the Series 1 that I want.

Since this was the first time I'd seen any of these in person, it was pretty exciting!
SLUG Zombies series 1 figure Cap'n Scurvy Jack Inspector Bones

Cap'n Scurvy Jack - Not one of the most zombified figures in the line. If you painted him up right, he could look like McDonaldland's Captain Crook after a rough night...or Keith Richards, your call.

Inspector Bones - One thing I'm starting to notice with SLUG Zombies is that they have a habit of losing footwear. The Inspector is in fine form with his coat, pipe (which is holding the eye that popped out of his head!), deerstalker hat and cracked magnifying glass.

SLUG Zombies series 1 eric the dead gutslingin grimm

Eric the Dead - If there's any figure in the entire line that is less zombified than the Cap'n above, it's Eric. His eyes are buggin out a little but that's it. His clothes are in fine shape. If you cast him in the human flesh color, he could be a Viking zombie slayer. Note to Jakks Pacific: You can use this idea free of charge! I need more zombie hunters out of time.

Gutslingin' Grimm - Grimm has not had a good time post mortem. He's taken eight shots, most of which were through and throughs, except for the headshot and a shot in his right buttock. I love the characters from different time periods! At one time I had thought about collecting Playmobil warrior figures from different historic eras but realized it would spiral out of control quickly.

SLUG Zombies series 1 Decyain Dom Neail Armgone

Decayin Dom - An obvious homage to Tarman from Revenge of the Living Dead, Dom is crawling out of a barrel of radioactive waste...or Trioxin. He's got great detail with the goop dripping from him and his brain showing through his head wound is awesome.

Neil Armgone - This was the figure I went the most crazy about when I saw Series 1 for the first time. As a kid I was always fascinated with NASA and astronauts. As an adult, I'm in love with pulp/retro scifi art. There's no question about who his name refers to and he's a zombie astronaut!

SLUG Zombies Series 3 12-Pack

As promised, here is a closer look at the SLUG Zombies Series 3 12 pack that I got from ConnQuest as part of the Great Pumpkin Exchange. The distribution model is the same as the previous two series: one 12-pack and four 3-packs. And the only way to get all 16 unique characters is to buy all the packs which will leave you with some duplicates. There's a few more generic types in this set than celeb-inspired ones.

SLUG Zombies series 3 Deadlifter Towering Terror Squeamy Sashimi

The Deadlifter - Absolutely love the detached arms and his face kind of says "Oh well, what can you do?"
The Towering Terror - Anybody want a peanut?
Squeamy Sashimi - Good detail, right down to the body parts on his tray

SLUG Zombies series 3 Louie Fingers, Double-Barrel Carol, Extra Crispy

Louie Fingers - Although his looks and profile make him to be a gangster, I am seeing the Stooges' Moe. There was one that looked like Curly in Series 2 and Louie only has the first two fingers on his left hand sticking out like he's ready for an eye poke.
Double-Barrel Carol - Sort of a post zombie apocalypse Velma type. I like that we're getting more hunter characters.
Extra Crispy - I think he prefers thigh meat...

SLUG Zombies series 3Tragic Magic, Base-Hit Bones, Singer Mortis

Tragic Magic - Probably one of my favorites in this group. How can you go wrong with a decapitated rabbit head?
Base-Hit Bones - Using his leg as a bat and a bat for his leg. Sa-wing, batter!
Singer Mortis - Thank you, thankyouverymuch.

SLUG Zombies series 3 Jeet Kune Dead, Johnny Two-Guns, Zero Hero

Jeet Kune Dead - Enter the Undead! There's just something about the ones that have parts of their bodies where they're not supposed to be that cracks me up.
Johnny Two-Guns - The body looks like Chuck Norris, the head...?
Zero Hero - Look! Up in the sky! It's a...wait, what is that?!

They've done another fantastic job with this latest series of figures. The poster showing the first 100 figures shows there's still plenty of good stuff coming: Ash from the Evil Dead, Shaun from Shaun of the Dead, a zombie dog, Ripley from Aliens, the Dude and lots more. The line is either doing well or has horrible distribution since I know people that still have yet to see any in the wild yet.

I'm still holding out hope that the rumored Aliens and Monsters lines will see the light of day because I know they'll be just as good as the Zombies.

LittleWeirdo from MinifigCollection has posted a photo on Flickr of Target exclusive Christmas 3-packs, which I'm currently hunting for. Looks like you get a repack hunter and two new holiday themed greenies.

The Great Pumpkin Delivers

Things are starting to wind down for this year's Great Pumpkin Gift Exchange. I'm still waiting on a few people to confirm they got their stuff but so far it seems like it was a success! A success not without its headaches and learning opportunities, but a success.

Here's what some of the participants got from their Great Pumpkins.
If I missed you, let me know and I'll link you up.

As for me, I got an unexpected bonus gift! This was courtesy of ConnQuest.

He makes all kinds of magnets, which are what those tiny movie posters and letters are. He sent lots of letters, like a 2" high stack! He also included a couple of patches that make me wish I had a denim jacket with the sleeves torn off so I could put them on the back of it.

Especially excited about The Crimson Ghost one. Most people associate his visage with The Misfits (and rightly so!) without knowing where it originated. It's a great old timey serial picture. Best of all is the SLUG Zombies Series 3 12-pack which I'd been wanting to get for awhile. They'll be getting their own post next week.

My "official" Great Pumpkin gift came from Tommy Day at Tophat Sasquatch.

Even the box it was shipped in had Peanuts Halloween stickers on it. My wish list included LEGO minifigs and I got three: a pirate, a Hamlet-esque actor with skull and a cowgirl with lasso. Also included was a ziplock of LEGO-like candy bricks that you can actually snap together to build something, four packs of 80s trading cards (Return of the Jedi, Jaws 2 and TMNT x2) and a Tophat Sasquatch t-shirt.

Huge thanks to ConnQuest and Tommy for putting together such cool packages!

Zombie Planet!

My semi-regular trips to Toys R Us over the past few months haven't been yielding much. Mainly because I was looking for SLUG Zombies and not finding them. They finally showed up with Series 3 12-pack ($11.50) and 3-packs ($4.49). While not much over the Target prices, I passed for now. But those aren't the zombies I'm posting about today.

During those fruitless months of searching I got addicted to Buggyboos capsule toys on the way out the door. They're cute little aliens/bugs and each one comes in a multitude of colors so even if you get your third Cionus, it's not exactly the same.

At the start of the summer, I had seen another vending toy called Zombie Planet at WalMart. I didn't have any change and the next time I was there, it was already gone.
(I try not to go to WalMart very often, it can be scary.)
But lo and behold!
What have they gotten in at Toy R Us...
Zombie Planet!

I'm not sure if each figure has multiple "wash" variations (see below) but I really prefer the full color ones so it's not a big deal. They sell for $60 online for a case of 250, which is about 0.24 each! If these weren't quite so gruesome, I'd buy a case and hand some out in Trick or Treat bags. And if I had the cash, probably buy a vending machine to hold them.

While browsing the vending machine site, I also found Freaky Geeks.

Now, if you'll excuse my, my inner child is going to go freak out some more at the idea that you can buy capsule toys in bulk online.
If you want to join me, head over to CandyMachines.com
