Krampus Kollectibles

If you're a fan of the movie Krampus, then Entertainment Earth is going to be your new best friend! They have all sorts of goodies to deck your halls with Krampus spirit.

First are these two sets of Beezle-Baubles. These ornaments are 8" in diameter and are perfect for sprucing up your tree (get it?). At the time I'm writing this, Set 1 is temporarily out of stock and Set 2 is very close to joining them. But it's never too early to order for next year, or whenever you want to display them. Leave them up year round if you want, I don't judge.

Speaking of decorating your tree, wouldn't this lovely Cherub Tree Topper look great atop your tree? I think she'd need a couple extra lights right below her to highlight the claws and creepy face.

My favorite item would have to be this Dark Elf statue. He's 1:6 scale, standing just over 10" tall. He's got a single candy cane hanging from his belt, but that's only for the good little kids. The bone saw might be for the other kids.

Are ornaments and statues not your thing. Do you just want something to cuddle with on the cold winter nights? This Klaue Teddy Bear might be the thing for you! You can even peel back part of his scalp to pet his brain! What a good little bear.

2016 Haul-iday Report

Wow, remember when 2017 seemed like the far future? Damn, I'm getting old.

Anyway, hope everyone had a great holiday season with friends and family. This is the annual somewhat-braggy post showing off some of my holiday gifts.

First up, some Strange things...

Those calendars may look like they've come to bargain with Dormammu, but they actually have different art inside. Also, one of them came with the set of buttons on the left. I didn't even think to look for playing cards when the movie came out. I"ll probably feature them some day when I get the comic based cards. Another thing I didn't know about was the Walmart exclusive Funko Pop "spell casting" Strange figure. Pretty cool!

From other dimensions to other galaxies! The Falcon speaker was a total surprise, which is good. While wish lists help the holiday shoppers, they kind of take away the surprise for the giftee. The ESB Topps book is fantastic. I got the Star Wars one last year. It showcases all the original trading cards from ESB, front and back. The dust cover is made from a waxy paper, just like the card packs.

The magazines were also a nice surprise. I've seen them on stands but couldn't bring my self to spend the hefty cost for them. The People one comes with a pull out and assemble VR viewer to pop your phone into. If you already have a VR viewer, go to the app store and grab Life VR. It's got a brief video where you're an X-Wing pilot. It's not a game, you can only look around but it's a fun experience. The app also has you standing in the middle of a 360 degree view of the Rogue One Jedha set where they're filming the tank ambush. You can also watch them in non-VR so you can still have the 360 experience on your device.

I was so thrilled to get all three of these! I was very sad when I found out Gravity Falls was coming to an end. Ever since the show started I was hoping we'd get a replica of the journal and here it is! It's done like the 'actual' book. It looks like someone wrote and drew in it. There's also a section that Dipper has put in his own notes.

Flipping through the Labyrinth book is amazing. So many behind the scenes photos! There's quite a few smaller pages inserted throughout the book that make it look like someone put them in there featuring drawings or script pages.

I'm almost done with Dr. Strange already. It's on par with other similar DK books. It doesn't get too in depth on anything but it does cover a good amount of his history.

New cars! I have an Ecto-1 from a previous release but I'm going to keep this one carded. A few other random Halloween rides including a Rigor Motor I don't have. On the right is a Treasure Hunt from the new Fright Cars series. I have been looking for this one for a good month or so. Very happy to finally get one...but do I open it?

Finally, a couple of neato things Mrs Dex got for me at a holiday craft fair that are right up my alley. A Creature light switch and a sparkly Labyrinth ornament.

Did you get anything killer that made your holiday season?
Let me know!

Hallmark 2016 Dreambook

The birds are singing, flowers are sprouting. Spring is in the air!
And it's once again that time of year when Hallmark sends out their annual Keepsake Dreambook that previews some of the upcoming holiday ornaments for the year.

I'm going to run down just a few pages of neat-o pop culture related things you can hang from, or put atop, your Christmas tree. Or whatever winter holiday related plant you may have in your home.

Hallmark once again flips the bird to collectors by making some really cool ornaments only available at Comic Cons where you can wait in line for hours and still not get one. Exclusive ornaments are what got me to stop being all in on Star Wars ornaments. Thank you, Hallmark for saving me money and space.

I can't even begin to image how much the Prototype Boba Fett is going to go for on the secondary market. I'm guessing $100 for the low end.

Continuing the Nightmare Before Christmas series is Dr. Finklestein. Next to him is The Muppets' Electric Mayhem tour bus which plays a snippet from "Can You Picture That?" I would have gone with "Movin Right Along" but that's just me.

And then we have three more additions to the Chevy Chase collection. Not really a thing, but they seem to be cranking out at least one Vacation and one Caddyshack ornament every year now. The gopher is one of those solar mover things.

Ladies and gents, I present to you Bugs Bunny from "What's Opera, Doc?"! Possibly the first and only time you'll see an ornament with a male cross dressing character. Although I'm not sure if they'd ever made a Mrs Doubtfire ornament.

Michigan J Frog is one you could probably keep on your desk year round just to annoy your co-workers. Yes, it has sound! Yes, it's exactly what you think it is.

Scooby-Doo's Mystery Machine plays the original theme song, of course! The Flintstones one also plays the theme but I"m really hoping it starts with the work whistle to complete the Fred leaving work scene.

Then you've got what's pretty much the Trinity of 80s youth: He-Man, Grimlock, and Jem. Who would have thought there would ever be a Jem ornament?
Sadly, she does not play any music.

Here are the Star Wars ones that you don't have to go to a con and stand in line for. BB-8 is a no-brainer but I can't believe he doesn't have sound! Han...yeah ok. I probably would have gone with FN-2187 or Rey, which I'm sure we'll get at some point.

Poe's X-Wing has "battle sounds" which might cause me to pass on it because it cranks the price up to $33. The stormtrooper head has "memorable dialog" and of course the Leia/Vader scene does as well. Very curious to see what the Rogue One ornament is going to be. Will it be a ship, character, or something else?

And if you've got an extra $100 burning a whole in your pocket, you can top your tree with a Death Star! It does come with its own power cord so you could sit it on a shelf too. It also has a remote control to start a light show synchronized with either the Main Title or Imperial March. Depending on how cool this looks in person, I may wait for a post-holiday clearance.

There's still a good amount of more pop culture ones including DC, Marvel, Peanuts, and more. July 9-10 is the ornament premiere weekend if you want to be among the first to see these in person.

Hallmark 2015 Halloween Ornaments

A few years ago, Hallmark figured out there are enough weirdos out there like me that never knew they needed Halloween ornaments in their life. These are all on the same page of the Dream Book but I broke them up to focus on them more and give a bigger image.

Hallmark Halloween 2015 2

I'm always a fan of any kind of black cat decoration but combining that with Dia de Los Muertos makes it that much better! The dayglo colors will really pop against a black background. The Cookie Cutter idea is cute. You can't go wrong with Trick or Treating animals. It took me a few looks to realize the door step is an Oreo.

Hallmark Halloween 2015 1

Happy Halloween! is my favorite of the four. This is the third one in a series they've been doing with a character inside of something. What I really like about it is the spooky background and zombie kid are just the right mix of creepy and fun for the youngins.

I can't remember a recent year where Hallmark hasn't done some kind of Nightmare Before Christmas ornament. They're not always lumped in with the "Halloween" ones but they've been there. Usually it's Jack-centric so it's nice to see Oogie get some love.

Most of the ornaments (and a lot more!) I've shown off this week will be available at your local Hallmark store the weekend on July 11-12.

Hallmark 2015 Dream Book

Ah May, the snow if finally melting and soon it will be the unofficial start of summer. So of course, what better time than to start thinking about Christmas ornaments?

We received our annual catalog of tree danglers recently so I thought I'd share some of the more pop culture related things that would probably be of interest to a typical reader. While there's plenty of recent offerings, there's a healthy dose of 70s/80s nostalgia because let's face it, we're the ones with the money, right? Or we're supposed to be...

Hallmark 2015 Beetlejuice

Unfortunately, I don't think Hallmark has done an official Burton Batman because it'd be cool to hang him side by side with this guy! Now if they could just make the waiting room couch with the head hunter.

Hallmark 2015 Wonder Woman

Now, I"m not a huge Wonder Woman fan, but this is not just Wonder Woman. This is Lynda Carter Wonder Woman! And if that's not enough for you, it plays the theme song.

Hallmark 2015 6MDM

Continuing the 70s TV nostalgia is Col. Steve Austin in his iconic red track suit. As much as I like the show's theme song (the 70s and 80s had some of the best!), it's a missed opportunity to not have it play bionic sounds, isn't it?

Hallmark 2015 Groot

Will people still not have enough Groot by Christmas? No, no they will not. Of course it plays the Jackson 5 song, but it would have been cool if they could have worked a little arm motion into it or something. I can only imagine how much it would cost then!

Hallmark 2015 Megatron

I have never liked this form of Megatron. Sure he looks cool in the cartoon but in the real world, his robot form looks like you could knock him over pretty easy. Seriously, compare the robot forms of Prime and Megatron. One if clearly superior! Still, it's good to get a classic representation of the toy line instead of something from the Bayformers universe.

Hallmark 2015 80s

It's time to play "One of These Things is Not Like the Other"!
I bet Kenny Loggins never imagined he'd have two holiday ornaments that played his music.

Hallmark 2015 Trio

How's this for a terrific trio? I wonder if Daryl will be flying off the shelves? I know a certain Cool & Collected person will be thrilled about Dr Zaius. I find it interesting that Hallmark has done an Alien and now a Predator, both characters from R rated movies.

Hallmark 2015

I know some people can't stand Star Wars things like this. I kind of dig it but I think the hat and sweater together are too much. If they left off the hat, it would have sold the turtleneck much better. I'm interested to find out what "holiday message" he will impart.

Hallmark 2015

It seems like they've discontinued the Lego minifig ornaments, so I guess Hallmark just doesn't like me anymore. But what I am very excited for is the Zeb ornament from Star Wars: Rebels. He's my favorite character on the show and I'm surprised they did him as the first character from the show.

Also of note, in the lower right, are two upcoming ornaments based on the new movie. I'm guessing one will probably be BB-8, the soccer ball droid that's taking the world by storm. What will the other be? Only time will tell!

Hallmark 2014 Dream Book Highlights

I know! I know! We're still just barely into Spring but the Hallmark Dream Book catalog for 2014 arrived the other day and there's some cool stuff in it. I know not everyone gets the catalog so I wanted to share some highlights with my fellow pop culture enthusiasts.

Hallmark Vacation, Gonzo, & Delorean

Two, count 'em, two Vacation ornaments! One Christmas and one original flavor. I'm looking forward to hearing what comes out of the Gonzo one when you push his button. And a flying DeLorean. I bet that will look cool hanging on the tree with its light up effects.

If you take a quick peek at the red text down by Bats' feet, it sure doesn't look like it says Holy Hit, does it?
Hallmark Crazy Batman 2014

I don't particularly care for this one but I had to share the sheer weirdness of the pose they used. Couldn't they have put his hand a little more over his face like he's doing that V thing over the eye? Instead it looks like he stepped on a LEGO someone left on the Batcave floor. It was probably Bane.

Hallmark Jack Skellington & Frankie 2014
Ah, what a pair! There are a few Halloween themed ornaments in the catalog but I forgot to scan them! Poor Frankie doesn't have any special features. But then I guess most people probably don't want the scene with the little girl being re-enacted on their holiday tree.

Hallmark Jaws, Bradys, & Dukes

Ok, they totally missed an opportunity here. Jaws plays the theme, great! Brady Bunch plays the theme, ok. General Lee does not have a feature to play the horn?!?! C'mon now!

Hallmark Apes, Godzilla & Alien 2014

Godzilla looks like he's wearing a holiday scarf but it doesn't tie around him? It's not going to keep him very warm! And then two things I would pretty much have never expected to see in ornament form: Cornelius and an Alien. I wonder if the Alien is the first character from an R rated movie they've ever done?

Hallmark Star Wars 2014

A decent assortment of Star Wars this year. I've been collecting the LEGO ones so I'm super excited to see Boba come along. And I must get the cantina band as well. I like them anyway but you throw a music feature on them and it's about perfect. The only thing that would make it better is if they put sections of both tracks on there, not just the one most people know. I'm not sure if I hope or dread that the Vader may say "NOOOOOOOOOO!"

Hallmark ComicCon Exclusives 2014

And if you happen to be going to San Diego or NYC Comic Cons and feel like trying your luck, here are the exclusives only available there and nowhere else. Long time readers may recall a post where I explained these exclusives were actually a blessing for me. With their introduction, I could never have a truly complete set of Star Wars ornaments so I'm now free to pick and choose just the ones I really like. If they ever do a Star Wars LEGO exclusive I'm going to have to walk into Hallmark and kick someone in the no-no area.

I am a little disappointed there aren't any Adventure Time or Regular Show ornaments.

Salem's Bizarre Bazaar

During the weekends in October, Salem's East India Mall is home to the Bizarre Bazaar. It's an open air cobblestone street open only to pedestrian traffic. There are several permanent shops that line the street but during the Bazaar, there's additional vendor stalls
and tents setup along the walkway.

We started off the day at Brother's Deli in downtown Salem, a local favorite. As you can see, even the local businesses get into the swing of Halloween. It might be a law or something.

Hallmark Star Wars Ornaments

Way back in 1996 Hallmark released their first modern Star Wars Keepsake Christmas ornaments. Well, I think they're actually just called Keepsake Ornaments to make sure people that don't celebrate Christmas will still buy them. Every year Hallmark publishes it's Dream Book which showcases most of the upcoming ornaments for the holiday season that will be on sale in stores in July. So it really is Christmas (or your preferred seasonal holiday) in July.
