Inigo Montoya? Nope.
Slim Shady? Nuh-uh.
Jonas? Still no.
Earl? I do have some karma to set right, but no.
The League of Extraordinary Bloggers wants to know who, who, who are you?
And believe me, they won't get fooled again!
(make it stop!)
Hello, my name is… Tell us a little about yourself — even if we all know who you are, there are plenty of new folks wondering if you’re in fact a dog.
Where to start? I generally go by the name Dex, online and in the "real world." In high school, my group of friends had a few Eds so we all had specific names to avoid confusion and the truncated version of my last name has stuck with me. It's kinda like having a secret identity apart from my public everyday persona.
I've been a Star Wars geek since there's been Star Wars. The only time I haven't loved Star Wars were the six years of my life before there was Star Wars. I don't blog a whole lot about it but I should be, at least more than I am. As corny as it sounds, I can only try to imagine what my life would have been like without it. I've met so many great friends (and my wife!) because we share a common love of a movie. Crazy ain't it?
I live in MA, north of Boston and just down the road from Salem. Salem is a great town, there's plenty of non-witch related history there too. If you're ever in the area, let me know! I'd be happy to play native guide. Just don't come in the winter! I've been spending Halloween night there every year since '97 or '98 and I don't think there's anywhere else I'd rather be.
I LOVE Halloween! Or more accurately, Halloween season. (For the record, that's 9/1 - 10/31.) I could probably do a whole other post on what I love about it specifically. The short version is, I have an idealized version in my head of the chill in the air, leaves crunching under foot, lit jack o'lanterns on the porch and kids Trick or Treating and pranking. Some day I'm going to make a game about Trick or Treating to try and capture that.
By the way, if YOU love Halloween and have a blog, head over to Countdown to Halloween to join in the largest celebration of Halloween on the webs!
And check out Crooked Ninja Turtle's Blog-O-Ween.
Currently I'm working in the data center for a well known footwear company as a contractor. The contract is up at the end of this month and it's back on the job hunt for me. I've been there before and it's not fun. In the past it's taken anywhere from two to six months for me to find another job. If you've never been unemployed, I highly don't recommend it. On the plus side, after that we're off to DisneyWorld and Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party!
And what would telling people I haven't met about me be if I didn't share my crazy dreams?
I want to write.
Yes, I'm doing that right now and it's part of why I wanted to blog in the first place. But I want to write a book, probably a young adult book. I'm great at coming up with ideas and scenes and completely horrible at things like character development and plot.
I want to Photograph.
I've never had a "real" camera or any kind of learning about shutter speeds, f-stops and technical stuff like that. Not having a real camera, you kinda don't have a need for it. Some day I'd like to get at least a semi-serious camera and learn how to use it. I don't think I'm too bad at composition and knowing what details to highlight. I've got some things I love in my Flickr galleries but I know they could be better.
While this doesn't really give you much of an idea who I am offline, I think if you've been around here long enough, or follow me on Twitter, you probably know enough.

ReplyDeleteI've only been to Salem once, several years ago, and it was an absolute madhouse even a week before Halloween. I loved the atmosphere and everyone so ready for the best holiday of the year. I keep meaning to get back since it's less than an hour away...
I had to check myself before I started going on too long on the My Name Is and CSI jokes.
DeleteDude, you're so close there's no reason not to visit! The Halloween stuff starts the first week of the month and there's always something going on over the weekends. Check out www.hauntedhappenings.com for schedules. And if you can make it on Halloween night, it is just amazing...and very crowded.
Be sure to hit Count Orlock's Nightmare Gallery. It's a mind blowing monster museum.
I must bring my wife and come and visit sometime Dex. : )
ReplyDeleteLove the Halloween Creep costume! I remember seeing it on here in the past... it's something you've been working on, building on, and improving for a while right?
ReplyDeleteI've been trying to get myself motivated to write for a while now. I've also been cooking up some YA ideas but never seem to be able to get all the way through a story.
You've been a blogger-staple for me since before I started blogging myself. Love the site, love your sensibilities, hope you keep it up for Halloweens to come!
It's been pretty much the same for the past decade. When college age guys were telling me I'm creepy as f- I knew I had a winner. That's also who it got it's name. I joined a Halloween forum recently to try and connect with costumers/prop builders to get ideas on how to make new hands. The one I use were manufactured but they haven't made them in years.
DeleteI keep hearing the best way to write is to just start doing it, which is how I started blogging. So I guess there's some truth to that!
Thanks for the kind words!
Hi, Dex :) I'm slow gettin around, it's just my nature.
ReplyDeleteThat is one super creepy costume, well done! My 6 year old happened by and before I could scroll away she yelped! I think the scariest thing they've seen is a Skeksi, they're pretty sheltered ;)
I am always envious of Northerners, gosh it must be such a beautiful climate! I bet that's some grass that truly is greener....
I hope that we get to see your photography skills bloom on here, your writing skills are already tops :)
Hey no worries. I only recently found you from the League myself.
DeleteThanks and don't sell Skeksi short, they're pretty creepy!
The climate is great in the fall, not so much when you get into the winter and occasionally get a foot of snow!
Rad costume! Better late than never to the party, glad you posted. Thanks for the Blog-O-Ween plug!
