Ghoullotine Card Game

I picked this up earlier in the year from their Kickstarter campaign because I really like the art and I'm always on the lookout for Halloween themed games.

Ghoullotine is a sort of a Frankenstein of the "don't bust" of Blackjack and the "take that" of Uno. Players are dealt a hand of cards which have values ranging from -6 to 7. Some of the cards have special abilities that effect play.

You have to play a card every turn and that card value is added to the current total. But if your card pushes it over 13, you're out and the count resets to 0 for the remaining players. The scorecard (above, bottom) is used with the included chips (not pictured for some reason) to keep track of the current total.

Like I mentioned at the top, the art is what really grabbed me. It's a little spooky without being too scary for the younger set, which makes this a great little card game for the season!

If you want to pick up a copy, you can visit the Vindicated Games page for Ghoullotine where they also have a couple of How to Play videos.

2021 Halloween Hot Wheels - '16 Camaro SS

Welcome back to another year of Halloween Hot Wheels! Like last year, I resorted to getting these online. I don't even know if they're sold in brick & mortar stores anymore. A long time ago, I used to be able to find them in Walmart or Target. Then they went to Kroger's or some other chain store that isn't in New England. Having spooky friends around the country helped out there!

I snagged this wave from Die Cast Garage after a quick search. Never used them before but they offered the wave, as opposed to Entertainment Earth which only had the case, and the price was right. The cars were nicely packed and arrived safe and sound.

Enough about that...let's get to the new card art!

If I were to look back at previous posts I'd bet I say they keep outdoing themselves with the card art every year. And I'm going to keep saying it because it's true!

The art is amazing. Take a click to drink in all the details! I was pleasantly surprised when I looked up the cars that they went Dia de los Muertos with the designs this year. I think it's a fantastic idea and a great way to shake things up.

In addition to Dia de los Muertos, all the cars in this series share a couple of other things. They all have the skull wheels and they all use real world cars. Usually, there's at least one or more vehicles that would probably not work in the real world. Because these are real cars, I can easily see them all being in a parade together.

I have to say, I love metallic paint like this. It really makes the car standout. If you squint at the rear bumper, you can see the Hot Wheels Halloween logo, which I call Smiley. You'll be able to see him better on other cars. I just didn't get a good shot of him here.

Because of the color of the windshield, I decided to break out the black light.

I guess they didn't intend for it to be completely reactive under black light based on the weird partial details that pop. How cool would it be to have an entire Halloween set that glowed under black light?

Countdown to Halloween 2021

Welcome to the annual Countdown to Halloween!

I'm am beyond thrilled to be one of your co-hosts this year. The main reason I started this blog 10 years ago was so that I could join in the Countdown fun and here I am co-hosting this year!

Come back every day this month for posts about all things spooky, creepy, and kooky.

The always alliterative Halloween Hot Wheels Wednesday is moved to Saturdays this year. Main reason is that there are 5 cars in the 2021 lineup and there's 5 Saturdays this month. But! Wednesdays will be host to the Graveyard Garage, featuring toy cars that aren't specifically made for Halloween but fit the vibe. I could probably do one of these every day for a couple months before I ran out.

Sunday we'll be taking about games of all sorts.

Monday will be Classic Creepy Comics featuring horror comics from past decades.

The Halloween Web interview series returns for the eighth year! The problem with doing this for that long is that it gets harder to find new people to interview. These will be sprinkled throughout the month.
