One advantage to having a late September birthday is that you might get
gifts that make for good posting during the Countdown to Halloween.
The Classic Horror Oracle may look like it, but it is not a Tarot deck. It is a divination tool, the cards are larger than the standard Tarot size and the deck only has 50 cards.
As a fan of The Witch (sorry, I tried it using VV instead and it just looks weird), I'm happy to see Black Phillip on the card backs. Sure, it could be any evil goat but since this deck is all about horror movies (and the movie is represented in here) I'm saying it's him.
The Guidebook has a few sample layouts. Each card illustration is included
opposite a page listing the movie, director, and year of release. It also has
a brief paragraph tying the card's theme to divination and suggested meanings
if the card is upright or reversed.
Each of the 50 cards features art inspired by horror movies ranging from 1930s classics to more modern movies. The card pairs that movie with an appropriate aspect or theme. The artist definitely has their own style which makes the images that much creepier.
