Depending on when you're reading this, I may be in a theater for one last go
round with Dr Jones. I'm really hoping he gets to go out on a high
note.
Streaming
Mrs Dex has been telling me for years that I would love this show and she's
100% correct! She recently found two of the stars are doing a rewatch podcast
where they go episode by episode and talk about them. Since she was going to
watch anyway, I figured it was a good time to jump in. It is incredibly funny
and I think it's only improved by listening to the podcast after each episode.
Slasher: Solstice (S3, Netflix)
This season is focused on the occupants of an apartment building that are
being stalked by a masked killer known as the Druid. I have to applaud the writers for having so many characters with interconnected story lines. The series continues
to impress me with the brutality and gruesomeness of the kills.
Muppets Mayhem (Disney+)
Thank you, whoever had faith that you can make an entertaining Muppet thing
that doesn't include any of the "big name" cast. I've always liked the Mayhem
(who doesn't?) and it was really cool to see them center stage for an entire
series. The celeb cameos were all great too.
Black Mirror (S6, Netflix)
I can't believe it's been four years since the last season! This group of five
new shows is branching out a bit from what we've come to expect and I'm here
for it. The final episode, Demon 79, is a testing ground for possible
companion series called Red Mirror that would lean more towards horror.
Movies
One of those horror movies that has a pervasive sense of dread that I, for
some reason, really enjoy. Pre-Sabrina Kiernan Shipka and Emma Roberts are both great and
it's directed by Anthony Perkins' son. I guess I wasn't paying enough
attention to it because I ended up having to watch one of those "ending
explained" YouTube videos on it. But that did help explain everything and made
me like the movie a lot more than I thought at first. It's a very slow burn
but rewarding if you're paying attention.

The trailer got me interested and within the first 10 minutes I knew I made a
good choice. If you're rolling your eyes at "another zombie movie" if you give
it a shot, you might be pleasantly surprised. It's got dash of Heathers with
the high school cliques and its sense of humor.
Rating: 7/10
This movie and I just did not vibe. I found the main characters so annoying
that I was hoping the sharks would come sooner. There was a point where I
really turned on this due to bad editing which made it look like they were
going to be rescued. I appreciate that it's not the usual Hollywood shark
movie and that the actors were in the water with real sharks. If you've ever
been out in the ocean and thought about what could be beneath you, you've
probably had more of a reaction than this movie gave me.
Rating: 4/10
And on the other fin, we have a much better "based on a true story" shark
movie. Everything was better about this one for me: bigger budget, better shot, and characters I actually felt
for because I didn't want to slap them. Plus, having a couple more bodies in
the water means more chances for biteys.

I will usually check out any Shudder originals without knowing more than what
the synopsis gives me and in cases like this, it leads to a great experience.
I don't know if this was shot on location but wherever it was makes a gorgeous
backdrop for this wild social media thriller.

Well, that was...something! No slasher movie needs to be over two hours but I
almost feel like the kills had to be spaced out to give the audience a break
from the live action Looney Tunes level of violence. I love Art the Clown! His
physicality and dark humor here put him in the pantheon of other horror gods that can go by one name. The story
itself could have been better but maybe future films will improve on this one.
But let's face it, you're not really watching this for the plot. I don't know
if the stories about people fainting or puking in the theater were true but
this 150% delivers on the gore!

The 2013 remake/reboot proved you could have an enjoyable Evil Dead movie without Ash (although we still miss him!). This one goes down the checklist of what you should have in an Evil Dead movie with maybe one too many call backs to the movies we love. But I think it does enough things right for a creepy demon flick that wants to swallow your soul.
