Handmaid's Tale (S2, Hulu)
Some of the scariest non-horror stuff ever because it feels like we're one bad election away from it. I've been a fan of Elisabeth Moss after seeing her in 2020's Invisible
Man and she just continues to be amazing in this series, which is also
outstanding.
American Horror Stories (S1-S2, Hulu)
This took up a whole lotta movie time this month but it's good prep for
spooky season. This is a spin-off anthology series where each episode is a
self contained story; very Tales from The Crypt. There are occasional
references to one of the main series stories but you can fully enjoy this
without having seen any AHS. If you know AHS, you're familiar with their
opening credits sequences. They do that for each episode, giving it a unique
sequence which just adds to the fun.
Movies
Horny Teenagers Must Die! (2024, Tubi)
Based on the title (and category tags) I assumed this was going to have some comedic elements to it. As it is, it's a pretty generic "horny teens in the woods" slasher that might keep you guessing who the killer is...if you're not really paying attention. If you're going to give your movie a title like this, you have to deliver on it, especially in the kill department.

Star Slammer aka Prison Ship (1986, Tubi)
Back in the 70s & 80s, "women in prison" was a whole sub-genre of exploitation films. This is one of those but innnn spaaaace. It's got a lot of the standard tropes of WiP films and plenty of generic sci-fi stuff to make it entertaining even if it's not a good movie. And how about that knock-off Raiders music?

Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story (2024)
If you're of a certain age, you know Reeve AS Superman and you know about his
accident. But you may not know much about him after the accident. This is both
incredibly inspiring and heartbreaking to watch. The man had an incredible
spirit and force of will on par with any superhero.
I Saw the TV Glow (2024, Max)
I definitely need to watch this again. I went into it expecting something completely different and was a bit let down at what I got. I went and read up on it after watching and it was clear what they were doing and my not liking it as much was due to me wanting it to be something it wasn't. I think it will likely resonate more with some people.

The Pumpkin Man (2023. Tubi)
Tis the season to watch bad holiday movies. For low budget, it's not terrible and does manage to capture some Halloween vibes. The acting can get pretty flat and there were a few scenes where extras were needed because it just felt like there should be people in the background. The Pumpkin Man needs...something. I can't see him and not think it's a guy in a costume on stilts.

This is going to be one of those movies horror fans either love or hate and I
loved it! Imagine a Friday the 13th movie but the camera mainly follows Jason
instead of the kids. There's no score, no jump scares, and the woodland
photography that would almost be peaceful if you weren't walking alongside a
murder machine. The kills are well done and there's one here that will
probably go down in horror history for how WTF it is.
Rating: 8/10
Was it a fun Tim Burton ride? Yes! Was it a good movie? Kind of? It feels like
they stitched together a couple ideas to make a movie. While I really enjoyed
Dafoe's antics, was there even a point to Monica Bellucci's character except
as a ticking clock for Beetlejuice? If they don't make a third movie and bring
her back as the main villain, why introduce her and not give her more to do?
At the end of the day, it's a Beetlejuice movie and I'm not wanting it to be
anything more than it is.
