Trading card company
Monsterwax is back
again with a sequel to their fantastic Spookshow trading card series from
2012. You can see my review of those
here.
As before, they took to Kickstarter to make this series happen and I was
thrilled to be part of it. And just like last time, I wouldn't be content with
just the base set of cards so I ponied up for the Delux Master Set!
So what did I get for front row seats?
They picked up where series 1 ended with card 67 and gave us 48 more wild,
wacky, and weird Spookshow poster reproductions to add to the base set. The
only (slightly) disappointing thing with this series is there was no counter
box and the cards were loose. They did include one wrapper (upper left) but there's still something fun about opening pack after pack.
The backs of each card talk about different aspects of the whole Spookshow
experience and history. Most often, it relates to something from the poster on
the front.I have to say, I would love to be able to wallpaper a room in full size Spookshow posters!
And now on to the bonus goodies!
Going around the clock, we have a slick vomit bag, (just in case!)
An official Ghost Certificate! Did I mention it came with a ghost?
Your very own zombie slave to carry out your will!
And an Authentic Death Curse! Use at your own risk!!
Starting from the top is an amazing sketch card by Trey Baldwin. He posted the cards he did for this set on his DeviantArt page and he also did the gorilla body with the girl's head on it.
The Dracula poster card is a Kickstarter exclusive that's numbered and has your name on it. Well, not your name, my name.
The middle row starts off with a one of three foil cards that were included. Next is a printing plate used in making one of the cards. And on the end is one of three promo cards.
At the bottom is are a couple of the 18 b&w sticker versions of the cards.
Last, and definitely not least....
Drumroll please...
An autograph from Rick Allen, or as he was better known, Kelmar the Mad Magician! I couldn't find any cards with his name on the poster but it's still pretty cool to have an autograph from a Spookshow performer.
Those are really cool!
ReplyDeleteThese look great! Love that sketch card!!!
ReplyDeleteVery cool. I've started getting into 60s movie poster/record cover art lately. Really like these vintage art styles.
