Star Wars Action Figure Playing Cards

There was a time, years ago, when I could say I owned every deck of Star Wars playing cards that was put out. Now, they're just cranking them out. I think they're going too niche in the quest for more money. At any rate, my point is that I can't catch em all anymore but will pick one up that strikes me.

And how could anyone that grew up with the original movies, and toys, pass this up? For a lot of fans my age, the Kenner line is just as much a part of our love for Star Wars as the movies themselves. Before you could stream anything, even before VHS was in every house, the toys let you have your own adventures whether you wanted to recreate the movies or make up your own stories.

Before I get too lost in my childhood, let's get back to the cards! Each one features a classic Kenner figure using elements of the original card backs. From the silver border to the pastel backgrounds, these are pure nostalgia. The left side has the figure's name and the right the first card back they were released on. The face cards in each suit are (J,Q,K,A) Han, Leia, Luke, and an Imperial.

The top right corner also has a year which at first I thought was their movie year of release but then noticed there were years other than 1977, 1980, and 1983. I'm presuming it's the year the figure was made, as opposed to released, because some say 1977 and collectors know we didn't get any figures until 1978.

No rhyme or reason for these other than they're some of my favorite figures. I am a little disappointed that Hammerhead didn't make the cut but I guess someone has to go when you can only choose a little more than half of the line to feature. But did we really need the Rancor in here?

  1. Outstanding. Where did you buy them? Was chatting with a coworker the other day how we remember when we (or a friend) first got a VCR player and we could actually watch Star Wars or Raiders...every...single...day. Mind blown!
