Another annual favorite, Oculus Infernum: A Halloween Tale, is what I imagine a Halloween album by the Trans-Siberian Orchestra would sound like. If anyone from TSO is reading this, that's an open invitation on behalf of the entire Halloween community.
This a uniquely crafted concept album melding melodic metal with dark classical pieces. Dee Snider (Twisted Sister) provides the narration for the on going story of a child whose destiny is to remove a demonic curse on the Van Helsing Family. But the narration and story are just bloody icing on the ax.
The music is really what steals the show and creates a heavy, haunting atmosphere. You'll hear parts of "Rite of Spring," "Night on Bald Mountain," "Hall of the Mountain King," "Funeral March," "Moonlight Sonata," and "Carmina Burana." And from the movies: "Ave Satani" from The Omen and "Tubular Bells" from The Exorcist.
These are all ghoulish good pieces in their original form, but here they are strapped to a table and jolted with electricity to give them new, unholy life.
"just bloody icing on the ax." I might have to use that line in the future. :)
