The chonky figs like Santa and Krampus get into the $35-$40 range (but they're also 6.5") and while I wasn't considering them at first, after getting this one in hand, I feel a lot more comfortable dropping cash on this line. The also have Pocket Collection versions which are 4" tall. I really enjoyed this. I had no idea this series has a Potter-like fandom. The
series has that 80s "kids go on an adventure" vibe to it which kind of made me
feel like a kid watching it. And speaking of kids, the young actors were all
great. Also definitely recommend the Making Of doc which will just make you
like the kids more. I may just pick up the books while waiting for the next
season.

<div style="text-align: left;">
It definitely has humor to it but I was expecting a little more given the
cast. It's a pretty good Whodunit...or Whodawerewolf. My biggest "gripe" is
that if you make a rated R werewolf movie, it should be for gore and not the
number of f-bombs in the script. Considering it's based on a video game, I'm surprised they didn't try for a PG-13.<br />

<div style="text-align: left;">
The whole thing is like a Kamala Khan fanfic and feels like a comic book in
live action. That could be good or bad depending what you want from the movie.
I loved the Ms. Marvel series so I was super happy to see Kamala (and family!)
on the big screen with her idol. The "blink" fight stuff was really fun. Even though Monica had her moments with Carol, she felt a little sidelined to special
guest starring on the Carol and Kamala show. It's one of those movies where you go
for the fun of the ride and have a good time.

Pre-whatever happened to him Shia is actually pretty good in this, complete

Starring that guy from a few Resident Evil movies (or Rogue's boyfriend in the
original X-Men!) this was just a bloody good time. I was sold on this from the
trailer. It's got good practical effects and a very 90s/Evil Dead horror
comedy thing going. Plus, it's fun to see this jacked dude use wrestling moves
on the baddies.

I only just read the original novel a couple years ago so I lucked out with
not having to wait very long for it to be a movie. I know some people that
love the book aren't fans of the movie. I would have liked this without
knowing the book but I think I enjoyed it more because of it. If you're a

think it tells the story better.

Shockingly, this is the first Eli Roth movie I've seen! I don't know if I'd go
so far as to say this is a perfect slasher but it's right up there. What it
lacks in nudity, it more than makes up for in violence and gore. The brutality of the opening
Black Friday scene sets the tone pretty well. Plenty of good kills and even
the ones that are somewhat comedic will have you wincing. Also have to give some points for local humor, since I live in MA.<br /></div>

The line of figures has had a mediocre reception by fans at best. If they couldn't do these right, I almost would have preferred a retro 3.75" 5 POA line which would likely be what we should have got back in the 80s.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;">At any rate, here's the final figure...Sheila the thief.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgWYPGe-cab-ttv1Dg75I2lY35xDZtB19pNYQ0WnALutfgJs4YH9Ng94iTkrQDTxl6_bROZlqVGwCutTh5e6WqE6SbZFLLk4IfTxBafN7lZknOU2QqsXpSyrOIVJE9M-jmFSSoyYEwfZz_jB6HVZArgGrJR7isa28GGmUWhuUNEw5FvAddZV0VqwfVUkAA/s4032/2024-02-11%2009.46.14.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4032" data-original-width="3024" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgWYPGe-cab-ttv1Dg75I2lY35xDZtB19pNYQ0WnALutfgJs4YH9Ng94iTkrQDTxl6_bROZlqVGwCutTh5e6WqE6SbZFLLk4IfTxBafN7lZknOU2QqsXpSyrOIVJE9M-jmFSSoyYEwfZz_jB6HVZArgGrJR7isa28GGmUWhuUNEw5FvAddZV0VqwfVUkAA/w300-h400/2024-02-11%2009.46.14.jpg" width="300" /></a></div><br /><div style="text-align: center;">I've mentioned it many times before but whether it's actual tabletop RPGs or computer based games, I tend towards the sneakier, more Dexterity-based classes. (Could it be because my last name is Dexter?) And despite how cool the other kids' magic items are, an invisibility cloak is the one you could get the most day to day use out of.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><span><a name='more'></a></span><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh_rMvydFyg34hEHttPMrHsxjA3PnZY0TSewtmgg2QPH-iemA2wbyY0-ylYehnp7A4Ik13WlHeLpFNmlFwN5X5R7lFVnsUtq5WkhXMqx-Mgvb_6wkCVMkb7ln2B1IO-5ayJGD1HuRtBMhlk5g2lMc7FFI7hDMAYmRnqC1HTu85bRSE4_mC4vUbbOiN_WVc/s4032/2024-02-11%2009.52.31.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4032" data-original-width="3024" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh_rMvydFyg34hEHttPMrHsxjA3PnZY0TSewtmgg2QPH-iemA2wbyY0-ylYehnp7A4Ik13WlHeLpFNmlFwN5X5R7lFVnsUtq5WkhXMqx-Mgvb_6wkCVMkb7ln2B1IO-5ayJGD1HuRtBMhlk5g2lMc7FFI7hDMAYmRnqC1HTu85bRSE4_mC4vUbbOiN_WVc/w300-h400/2024-02-11%2009.52.31.jpg" width="300" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"> </div><div style="text-align: center;">It seems this second wave of figures, or at least the ones I have, all suffer from wonky feet. But despite this, Sheila is probably the best kid figure in the line. And I'm not just saying that because I like thieves! Her articulation is smooth across the board, again except for the feet. I wasn't worried about any of her appendages snapping off when I tried to move them.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjbPhA9t8bOwjl784J0qcC_bt7wqjA1zqBcZIAlGD_aTIh74oEihYmwowu_exLP2YEBSVSbr8gy990S7VGD9pYDwNS1stkpHMC6-jYDqAHnWszbmTfYiO1q1IndU14W5wvWzEs45eA3D-go4NMRSdML95JIeO5hNsQqrm_jqbtXBKLMMO_gyD5Wk_-H30U/s4032/2024-02-11%2009.54.12.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4032" data-original-width="3024" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjbPhA9t8bOwjl784J0qcC_bt7wqjA1zqBcZIAlGD_aTIh74oEihYmwowu_exLP2YEBSVSbr8gy990S7VGD9pYDwNS1stkpHMC6-jYDqAHnWszbmTfYiO1q1IndU14W5wvWzEs45eA3D-go4NMRSdML95JIeO5hNsQqrm_jqbtXBKLMMO_gyD5Wk_-H30U/w300-h400/2024-02-11%2009.54.12.jpg" width="300" /></a></div><br /><div style="text-align: center;">Naturally, I can't quite get her hand up near the hood like the package shows so it kind of looks like she's dancing at a rave. She comes with three accessories: the hood, one normal cape and one very barley invisible cape. The hood is a separate piece which goes on her head like a helmet. The cape/close can be changed out by removing her head. She definitely looks odd without the cape on at all. You just get so used to seeing something that it looks weird when it's not the "way it should be."</div><div style="text-align: center;"> </div><div style="text-align: center;"> Look, I know an invisibility cloak is a weird accessory to get right but it feels like something better could be done with it.<br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh7VSG52sgA-RzI9YXEPgeQsqaBaPsVekT2Xiw5apWo3sHx7ZuDIqrJUzFOL5cwPX8CJ89DEveptBchsYAswT7PrPeYQXFOI1QRdfeDPnxFdjgobqxSjtpZsSh5EVJAJ3zhjS60RIVKep1jyxRCiqZj9L9cfCqCnW6u-xfiK8fzp4VGq9rAR689-H8Qmz4/s4032/2024-02-11%2009.59.18.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4032" data-original-width="3024" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh7VSG52sgA-RzI9YXEPgeQsqaBaPsVekT2Xiw5apWo3sHx7ZuDIqrJUzFOL5cwPX8CJ89DEveptBchsYAswT7PrPeYQXFOI1QRdfeDPnxFdjgobqxSjtpZsSh5EVJAJ3zhjS60RIVKep1jyxRCiqZj9L9cfCqCnW6u-xfiK8fzp4VGq9rAR689-H8Qmz4/w300-h400/2024-02-11%2009.59.18.jpg" width="300" /></a></div><br /><div style="text-align: center;">Thanks to a fun little Kinetic Sand treasure hunt set and a LEGO poition, I've got some neat accessories.<br /></div><div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div></div>Dexhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06438741309061958350noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1295330224497015785.post-40926756861810243602024-02-07T13:30:00.002-05:002024-03-03T16:12:02.087-05:00Hasbro Dungeons & Dragons - Presto<div style="text-align: center;">We're almost done rounding out the crew from Hasbro's Dungeons & Dragons animated line. The penultimate kid trapped in a world he never made is Presto the Magic User! Now it's been a minute since I watched the entire series so I don't remember if he actually cast spells himself or if it was all the hat. I mean, I know most everything he did was trying to conjure something out of the hat but did he have the magic in him? If not, is he even a Magic User?<br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhXoguOQPkcE1LPOSZ39re65smO80zqQqASlS_-nqJjYdmE3cw-VXed3YqN43MM9xlr-WlTrRogLYM9zyGAbhBByEG73PYrNchJF38UZGznchkoYya64EpL2UvbC_5Erk7i8ol_9r2cCj_CNvpSOvQjCCbpec4z3w8DHrAimBFieI4yqqlUqsW3CBrwhdc/s4032/Hasbro%20D&D%20Presto%20boxed.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4032" data-original-width="3024" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhXoguOQPkcE1LPOSZ39re65smO80zqQqASlS_-nqJjYdmE3cw-VXed3YqN43MM9xlr-WlTrRogLYM9zyGAbhBByEG73PYrNchJF38UZGznchkoYya64EpL2UvbC_5Erk7i8ol_9r2cCj_CNvpSOvQjCCbpec4z3w8DHrAimBFieI4yqqlUqsW3CBrwhdc/w300-h400/Hasbro%20D&D%20Presto%20boxed.jpg" width="300" /></a></div><br /><div style="text-align: center;">Presto was the only kid that exclusively went by a nickname. Must think he's pretty hot stuff to get by going by one name. The show bible lists him as Albert and in a '96 D&D comic appearance, he introduced himself as Preston, which makes more sense as an origin for Presto.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj3l5hR3eoytROiHcFvdp_SqKCgc8oUS4x_QKEjxCtzW394gALToGlDpQn3I5HKaj9rvxB9R4dNNtOIZSxt3wK1qkdJT1G9bZ6lZNd6Tka-TiOXXPYVEi1qWHmbmfIRK4tVixdacKyHch4MYscD0saNuGJkjhweMGd3DDqz9iweeCN7rJTrIGYlQgQaJE0/s4032/Hasbro%20D&D%20Presto%20hat.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4032" data-original-width="3024" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj3l5hR3eoytROiHcFvdp_SqKCgc8oUS4x_QKEjxCtzW394gALToGlDpQn3I5HKaj9rvxB9R4dNNtOIZSxt3wK1qkdJT1G9bZ6lZNd6Tka-TiOXXPYVEi1qWHmbmfIRK4tVixdacKyHch4MYscD0saNuGJkjhweMGd3DDqz9iweeCN7rJTrIGYlQgQaJE0/w300-h400/Hasbro%20D&D%20Presto%20hat.jpg" width="300" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"> </div><div style="text-align: center;">Here's Presto Stayin' Alive with his d4. <div style="text-align: left;">
After eight seasons and three movies, I have completed my Psych journey...at
least until the next movie comes out. I stopped posting about finishing each
season because there wasn't more for me to say. The show blazed its way into
my top TV shows of all time thanks to the writing and characters. I love
it!<br />

<span style="color: #ffa400;"><b>American Nightmare (Netflix)</b></span>
</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
This true crime doc about a young woman's kidnapping did not go where I
thought it would. The most horrifying thing about the story isn't the
abduction but how the victims were treated by law enforcement. I don't think
I've ever felt enraged after watching a documentary before.<br />

<b style="color: #ffa400;">Twisted Metal (S1, Peacock)</b>

<div style="text-align: left;">
My sum knowledge of the game series is some kind of demolition derby with
tricked out vehicles. Oh, and there's an ice cream truck. The series
definitely delivered and was a ton of fun. It brought me back to SyFy's (or
were they still SciFi then?) series Blood Drive which I also love. I haven't
seen Mackie is much outside the MCU but the dude's got serious charisma. It
better get another season!

I'm lumping these all together for posterity's sake. They carry on the show
and don't feel like a lame attempt to recapture something that was great. The
third one leaned a bit harder into the comedy than usual but it was also a
little different story-wise.

<div style="text-align: left;">
Whether or not you've seen it, odds are that if you're reading this blog,
you've at least heard of the infamous made for TV Star Wars Holiday Special
that aired exactly one time ever. This documentary takes a look behind the
scenes by talking to people that worked on it. There's also interviews with
celeb Star Wars fans and a brief glimpse into the world of TV variety shows of
the 70s, which is essential to understanding how this thing came into being.

Based on the trailer (and having watched the movie), I have to assume this was
intentionally made to be a "bad" movie. It's like the cast and crew of a soft
core porn decided to make a "real" movie. There's a fine line to walk when you
try to do an homage to bad movies and I feel like this doesn't quite get
there. Did I mention there's a lot of boobs?<br />

has the most convoluted timeline in cinema history. I've seen time travel

become a drag but counterpoint to him is Momoa who is playing a character in

This is the worst creepypasta I've heard. You go in an elevator with at least
10 floors and then go to certain floors in a particular order to summon a
ghost. This ghost is clearly not concerned about getting her story out there.
It's a lot less effort to stay home and chant Bloody Mary in front of a

the ghost world, but it needs to be done better.

From the director that brought you such classics as Deathsport, Rock n Roll

taped from cable and enjoyed in the 80s but watching it today it's like they
loaded a shotgun with spaghetti and shot it at a wall. The director describes

To me he always came across like a whiny, rich brat who was super annoying! <br /></div><p style="text-align: center;">I had high (unreasonable?) expectations for the second wave of figures. Maybe between production runs Hasbro figured out they did some things wrong with the first wave and corrected their mistakes?</p><div style="text-align: center;">Oh, dear reader, if only that were true...<br /></div><span><a name='more'></a></span><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;">We're going to start off with a problem before we even open the box?! The expression on Eric's face is him wondering why his figure's armor is a silver color instead of the dark blue it is in the cartoon. I've seen a few people online that customized their figure to match his animated appearance. The portrait kind of has a young Spock thing going on with the arched eyebrow. Please just follow the instructions to build your set."<br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;">Having the instructions on my iPad not only made it easy to zoom in to get a better look when needed but it meant I didn't have a huge folded sheet that I'd have to open up.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;">Some of the doodad pieces are a little weird but I guess you have to put something in there to make it a little more visually interesting. I'm not sure, but I think those pink bricks on the right might be Dr. Finklestein's tower and Jack's house like they're supposed to be way off in the distance? I really like how they managed to make the curly piece of the hill and have the "moon" attach to it.<br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj0f6QWxRdcMbvEaLKl43G6DKVmDIgSXQnEyR7kxm6eF03S5wma3lQXAJs0TcPRlSetNTWu328qBFfSKBFHYy0AewJpJgp_JGBAiMh_M5cPVXPTKnw1aEyRgGsRWn1L7XehYX0vL7Mt82Bxivm2IIHFZq0iTezhltxFrV_uBJneY-doCPJDsyDN4QxgORc/s4032/Nightmare%20Christmas%20blocks%20back.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3024" data-original-width="4032" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj0f6QWxRdcMbvEaLKl43G6DKVmDIgSXQnEyR7kxm6eF03S5wma3lQXAJs0TcPRlSetNTWu328qBFfSKBFHYy0AewJpJgp_JGBAiMh_M5cPVXPTKnw1aEyRgGsRWn1L7XehYX0vL7Mt82Bxivm2IIHFZq0iTezhltxFrV_uBJneY-doCPJDsyDN4QxgORc/w400-h300/Nightmare%20Christmas%20blocks%20back.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><br /><div style="text-align: center;">The back side has Zero flying through the sky! Right below him is his gravestone with a little bone on it. Obviously the scale isn't quite right but if I can dig my Jack figure out of the display case he's in, this will be his new home. I still have to get a Sally minifig.<br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;">The set is 167 pieces and I got it for $15 which I think works out to a little less than what you'd pay for a real LEGO set of the same size. Anyone that's ever participated in tabletop role playing will tell you there's one thing you absolutely need: your own set of dice. Sure, there's books upon books for every game but you can always borrow those from a friend, but dice...dice are sacred to some and aren't to be shared.</div><div style="text-align: center;"> </div><div style="text-align: center;">I can't tell you the last time I picked up a die to make a saving throw or an attack roll so a new set of dice is something not even on my radar but when I saw this <a href="https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/infiniteblack/1up-dice-ii-the-revenge" target="_blank">Kickstarter</a> awhile back I had to get in on it. Not only did it combine RPGs and video games but the packaging really grabbed me.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjA622vullPkGnqSmfw3bY91U64SOQHZWELDY6NnpYDGzojZH-v7k_cy7WjL5x-iwl8bJ4y097B0yy8ePF55xqCqIdr8qNVunmNmdRiHqmcgE-f9WvvKdb_yhWMbSlc5qKDhnK0DIMYwxf7WKPZrSmeG_JyDj3ZUvxc8yleRrVfvFJKrFF6nebBxGsLpAQ/s3024/1Up%20Infinite%20Black%20Dice.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3024" data-original-width="3024" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjA622vullPkGnqSmfw3bY91U64SOQHZWELDY6NnpYDGzojZH-v7k_cy7WjL5x-iwl8bJ4y097B0yy8ePF55xqCqIdr8qNVunmNmdRiHqmcgE-f9WvvKdb_yhWMbSlc5qKDhnK0DIMYwxf7WKPZrSmeG_JyDj3ZUvxc8yleRrVfvFJKrFF6nebBxGsLpAQ/w400-h400/1Up%20Infinite%20Black%20Dice.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><br /><div style="text-align: center;">As you can see, I liked the sets so much, I got two! I've actually had this on my watch list for months and since it takes place at
Christmas, what better time to get around to it? This is definitely a
bit on the odd side but in the best way. Aside from the family's interpersonal
problems, there's a whole other mysterious thing going on that has trapped
them in the house and is issuing instructions through the TV which keeps you
guessing.

I got to see this in Salem with a director Q&A afterward. It's low budget,
crazy fun. What other movie will give you a Hallmark romance plot, a "level
up" training montage and feature a very violent Gri-uh...legally distinct
green skinned grouchy Christmas hater? They got David Howard Thornton (Art the
Clown) to play the baddie and he just brings it to the perfect level.<br />

I don't know why but I was expecting more from this. It's a slasher so of
course it has violence but the kills are fairly middle of the road and tame
(at least for me). It might be a decent gateway flick for someone that wants
to dip their toe into horror. There's something that comes out of nowhere near
the end of the movie that really should have been worked into the story
earlier. I did like their twist on the "I wish I'd never been born" trope.

If there was a V/H/S Christmas movie on Wish, this is what it would be. I
actually mean that in more of a jokey way than a slam on the movie. Of the

two are just okay. Not a bad watch by any stretch.

I actually turned this off after the first 20 minutes in and was all set to
forget it but for some reason I decided to finish it. The way the villains
chew the scenery almost makes up for the bland acting from just about everyone
else in the movie. Mrs Claus is doing her best (which ain't great) Harley
Quinn impersonation. Only as I was looking up the movie after watching it did
I realize it's a sequel which helps explain why it felt like I came in halfway

Considering this is about a creepy security guard chasing a woman around a
deserted parking garage it was pretty good. For not having any supernatural
elements to it, there is a surprising level of violence here when it does
happen. The ending starts to dip into action movie territory which makes it a
little less grounded but you'll still be cheering when the weirdo gets what's
coming to him.

I've seen this compared to Skinamarink, which was a Skinama-snooze fest for
me. The big difference is that stuff is happening in this movie to keep you
interested...after you get through the opening 30 minutes of "character setup"
which doesn't really matter. When things do start happening, a lot of it you
can't see thanks to it being pitch black or the camera person having a
flashlight with a very narrow beam but the audio more than makes up for it. The people making the movie clearly have a
vision but I didn't "get" it. Then again, that's cosmic horror for you.

Nothing says we like to party like thrusting your hand into a plate of
burning alcohol to snatch a piece of fruit or a nut and pop it in your mouth
without getting burned. And that's just what some Victorian families did at
this time of year, even the kids!<br />
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
Snap-dragon, or Flap-dragon, is a parlor game that came into being in the 16th
century. The game was usually played on Christmas Eve, and also on Halloween
by some counts! You'd take a shallow bowl, drop in some raisins, almonds,
grapes, or figs, pour in some brandy, light it up and see who can eat the most
treats...presumably with the least amount of bodily harm. And kids today will complain
when their phone battery runs out. Ha! </div><div style="text-align: center;"> </div><div style="text-align: center;">Using a liquor around 50% proof creates blue flames which give off a lot of light but doesn't burn as hot as your average candle. An 18th century writer even said of the blue fire "the wantonness of the thing was to see each other look like a demon, as we burnt ourselves, and snatched out the fruit". That sort of ties the game into the tradition of telling Christmas ghost stories and would probably be a fun way to wrap up your Halloween night.<br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"> </div><div style="text-align: center;">Here's a short video that explains a little more of the history and gives a demonstration. <br /></div>

</div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
First up is the newest from Ben Farthing's "I Found" horror series. I
mentioned the first two of this series in my
<a href="https://aeiouwhy.blogspot.com/2023/10/halloween-2023-reading-list.html" target="_blank">Halloween Reading List</a>
and loved them both. This one is just as good and it has the added bonus of
being a Christmas horror. And like the others, it's a quick read at only 126 pages. Perfect for Christmas Eve by the fireplace.<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span><i>After last year’s tragedy, Douglas’ parents are ignoring Christmas.<br />But
when Douglas finds an eerie strand of lights slithering through the sewer,
he unwittingly unleashes merry terror upon his neighborhood’s tacky lights
contest. String lights spread like invasive kudzu, turning festive
decorations into surreal, predatory nightmares. Determined not to lose
both Christmas and his family forever, Douglas gathers his courage to
confront the source of the holiday horror: deep in the concrete pipes
beneath the street.</i></span>
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;"><span> </span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span>While Krampus has started getting a foothold in the US over the past few years, things are generally bright and cheery here in the month of December. Europe, on the other hand, has some darker characters associated with this time of year. The next book is a guidebook to these festive frighteners.<br /></span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span> </span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://amzn.to/3t3xaGL" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="800" data-original-width="573" height="320" src="https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/91V-4a9ZaYL._SL1500_.jpg" width="229" /></a>
</div> </span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span>It features 24
entities across Europe and Denmark, with each one having a danger rating, a
couple paragraphs and a wicked illustration that might inspire something
other than sugarplums dancing in your head at night.</span>
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span><br /></span>
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

</div>
<br /><span>While it doesn't go into too much detail, I think it's a good way to
briefly learn about these stories and possibly find some (or all!) that
intrigue you enough to dig into them more. It's also absolutely worth it for
the illustrations!</span>

I had some trouble swapping the heads and had to put him under a hair dryer for a bit. To be fair, Lone Coconut had mentioned this in a project update. Now that I've gotten off the head he shipped with, I'm a little shy about fully plugging one on there in case it gets stuck. It doesn't seem to make much difference if the head rests on the neck and you'd only notice it if you were moving the figure around.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><span><a name='more'></a></span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEipvAh4RSqVgEZgIasEK1EoDeZYvRUbZIhOA-eHzFSqQz8-17o5gwFjtJwzmS4A8hpQ68z5uIE0JJf0DEBYWEh4-Fg_iX6V3sqWET1ALmgE0AUNgvXd6GAejy6SOrtLycMxLMYL4kIlFBVj_TQwa_qDeeJ-R4Qge82zFBbI0Z2i1dGIfHy2-b2IamL_T8g/s4032/Plunderlong%208-Ball%203.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4032" data-original-width="3024" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEipvAh4RSqVgEZgIasEK1EoDeZYvRUbZIhOA-eHzFSqQz8-17o5gwFjtJwzmS4A8hpQ68z5uIE0JJf0DEBYWEh4-Fg_iX6V3sqWET1ALmgE0AUNgvXd6GAejy6SOrtLycMxLMYL4kIlFBVj_TQwa_qDeeJ-R4Qge82zFBbI0Z2i1dGIfHy2-b2IamL_T8g/w300-h400/Plunderlong%208-Ball%203.jpg" width="300" /></a></div><br /><div style="text-align: center;">When I went to swap out the right hand, the whole arm came off. Again, not a huge deal because this guy is just going to posed on a shelf with <a href="https://aeiouwhy.blogspot.com/2021/01/plunderlings-goblin-figures.html" target="_blank">the other figures I have</a>.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgHjrRQ4S_Z6j8fTxbKd4pKKVrn6lTyC0x39k0f1waxhrvEG41qkEI21iBNmSsZEcdsQNVOeGqcplBUftHoGT-vequunnNWGvEp6zfQK1qnIuGNCQec4sv_PKtpPbB9vDZd-Jk3w9G82Y9qsNLS_nMZlmLi5vWqEHJfKDKOIl8IhA1bRCjBreLX-9e6GJE/s4032/Plunderlong%208-Ball%204.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4032" data-original-width="3024" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgHjrRQ4S_Z6j8fTxbKd4pKKVrn6lTyC0x39k0f1waxhrvEG41qkEI21iBNmSsZEcdsQNVOeGqcplBUftHoGT-vequunnNWGvEp6zfQK1qnIuGNCQec4sv_PKtpPbB9vDZd-Jk3w9G82Y9qsNLS_nMZlmLi5vWqEHJfKDKOIl8IhA1bRCjBreLX-9e6GJE/w300-h400/Plunderlong%208-Ball%204.jpg" width="300" /></a></div><br /><div style="text-align: center;">Now you can see why they call him 8-Ball.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;">Let's crack open the Leather Crate. <b><u>Series</u></b><br />
</div>
<div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<b style="color: #ffa400;">Goosebumps (2023, Disney+)</b>
</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
I didn't know much about this going in, I just presumed they'd be redoing the
original stories. Boy was I surprised to get an ongoing series and that it was
TV-14! It's not R but it's not kiddie either. I really like how they worked
multiple stories/objects into one story.
</div>
<div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<b><a href="https://amzn.to/40YwgI8" target="_blank">Killer Coaster (2023, Amazon Prime)</a></b>
</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
A disgraced cop goes under cover at an amusement park to investigate a murder
that happened in the ghost train ride. She meets two members of rival carny
families and they find there's a serial killer stalking the fairgrounds.
There's a lot going on in this 8 episode series. There's horror, comedy, and
plenty of drama within, and between, the families running the carnival. If
you're looking for something different (and don't mind subtitles) give this a
try!<br />
</div>
<div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="color: #ffa400;"><b>Loki (S2, Disney+)</b></span>
</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
I won't say I 100% understood the series from start to finish but I think of
all the Marvel series, this one has the best main character story. While the
fate of the multiverse is on the line, it also gets very personal by focusing
on the characters.<br />
</div>
<div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div>

<b><a href="https://amzn.to/49Gc0Pk" target="_blank">Baron von Laugho's Halloween Spook-a-thon (2016, Tubi)
</a></b>
</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
A movie I enjoyed so much, I forgot to include it in the October recap.
Movies like this are why I tend to shy away from low budget indie horror.
It's an anthology and only one of the stories kept my interest. The whole
"lost TV show found on VHS" premise thing didn't work for me either.<br />

<b><a href="https://amzn.to/3R5nSD0" target="_blank">Willy's Wonderland (2021, Tubi)</a></b>
</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
If you're looking to see Nic Cage put the beat-down on homicidal animatronic
creatures, this is your movie! Overall, it's just kind of okay. Cage being
Cage and playing the silly situation totally straight is probably what makes
it worth a watch. It's got some fun moments but I feel like it needed a
little more to it.

<b><a href="https://amzn.to/3QE0jQs" target="_blank">Justice League: Warworld (2023, Max)</a></b>
</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
I'm not as big into DC as I am Marvel but their animated movies are usually
great and this one was no exception. This is a series of linked stories that
take place in a fantasy setting (Did not expect to see Warlord popup!), the
Old West, the 1950s, and modern day. It was really cool exploring the
different settings and seeing "alternate" versions of the Big Three. I guess
this is a setup for the animated version of Crisis next year so that's
something to look forward to.

<b style="color: #ffa400;">The Satanic Panic and the Religious Battle for the Imagination (2022,

</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
This documentary follows ordained minister Derek White (aka The
Geekpreacher) as he interviews various people in the RPG biz and
talks about the Satanic Panic from the 1980s. I don't know if you'd find it
as interesting if you're not somewhat into RPGs but it is an amusing look
back at a particular time in gaming history.<br />
</div>
<div style="text-align: left;"> </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<b style="color: #ffa400;">Dark Dungeons (2014, YouTube)</b>
</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
If you missed it, I did a
<a href="https://aeiouwhy.blogspot.com/2023/11/dark-dungeons-2014.html" target="_blank">separate post on this last week</a>. It was talked about in the above doc and I immediately knew it was next
on my watch list. Again, you'll get more out of this if you're familiar with
RPGs but it's still pretty entertaining to watch them turn an anti-D&D
religious tract into live action.<br />

<b><a href="https://amzn.to/3sz89D4" target="_blank">Onyx the Fortuitous and the Talisman of Souls (2023, Screambox)</a></b>
</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
I was sold on this from my first viewing of the trailer. However, I wasn't
familiar with the character Onyx before this and I wasn't sure if I'd be
able to get through an entire movie of him after the first few minutes. He's
like an SNL character that's great in short skits but might not be fit for
feature length movies. Luckily, I warmed up to him and was able to enjoy a super fun movie! It's got a very 80s horror/comedy vibe complete with
practical effects.

<div style="text-align: left;">
I saw this one mentioned a few times recently online and decided to give it
a watch. I guess it's sort of a home invasion movie but the home is a
college campus where most everyone has gone home for break. Some of the
killers masks are made from tin foil and I'm sorry, I just can't take you
seriously no matter how hard you're trying to kill me. The lead girl is good
in her role even though the story can be a little weak.

<div style="text-align: left;">
I'm a sucker for horror set in an amusement park and that usually results in
me sitting through some less than stellar movies. The idea of a horror
themed amusement park is great (even if a couple of the 'mascots' look like
they're Scooby Doo knockoff villains). The plot was actually decent as
slashers go. The killer looks pretty good but has no presence. When he shows
up it's "Oh look, the killer is here to thin out the cast." and sometimes he
seems pretty clumsy with his weapons, which I blame more on the effects work
than anything else.

This is one you have to see it for yourself because there's no way I could
explain how bad it is. And yet, I'm low key obsessed with this now. It's
weird in the way that only an 80s horror movie can be. It seems like Tubi
left the gore in but for some reason censored the word sh!t.

I was going to roll this over into the December watch list but I wanted to
make people aware of it so they could watch it during the holiday season. This is a dark comedy take on the trope of family tension at a holiday gathering where people don't keep their feelings in check. Regular visitors know I usually wait until the end of the month to give
a recap on what shows/movies I've watched. But after seeing this, I felt it
needed its very own post.

<div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div>

<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
When JR Ralls (writer) won $1000 in the lottery, he decided to do something
special with it. That thing was to adapt the Chick tract of the same name into
live action. The Kickstarter got him enough attention that
<a href="https://www.zombieorpheus.com/" target="_blank"
>Zombie Orpheus Entertainment</a
>, known for their comedic films about RPGs, jumped on board.<br />
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
If you're not familiar with Chick tracts, they're preachy, illustrated
religious pamphlets. You can
<a href="https://www.chick.com/products/tract?stk=0046" target="_blank"
>read the original Dark Dungeons one right here</a
>. Somehow I wasn't aware of this despite it having a cult status in the RPG
community for how ridiculous it is. As someone that got into D&D around
the age of 13, I can assure you there is nothing nefarious going on at the
gaming table...at least not in the games I played (cue mysterious music).
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;"> </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

</div>
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
They managed to produce something that's true to the source material but also
comes across as a satire because of how over the top the original is. Going
into the movie, I had only known it was adapting a Chick tract and while I had
no trouble believing someone suffering from Satanic Panic would see this as a
warning, it became apparent that they were poking me in the ribs as if to say
"Can you believe this?"
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
If you don't at least have a toe in the RPG community, you probably won't get
as much enjoyment out of it as someone that knows the difference between a d10
and a d100.You can watch the entire 40 minute short on YouTube.

This is a couple days later than usual but I'm holding to the the last
gasps of Halloween before the Winter Holiday Assault begins. Today, the inside
decorations came down. I like taking vacation time after Halloween both for
clearance shopping and sort of mourning period. The outside decorations
usually come down first thing on 11/1. For me, it's part of the magic when
everything in my yard "vanishes" the next day. At least that's what I think my
neighbors think.<br />
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

</div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
How cool is this not-LEGO Sam figure? I got him (and some other really cool
stuff) as a gift. I'd actually been meaning to look for one so he could hang
out with my not-LEGO Jack Skellington.
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
For Halloween, I tend to make up 40-45 treat bags to hand out. By the time we generally head
into Salem (around 6:30) the bags are almost always gone. This year,
Mrs Dex and my mom stayed at the house while my stepdad and I went into Salem.
There were still bags left when I got home later, so it seems we
had fewer Trick or Treaters than normal. Mrs Dex said people at her work had
fewer as well. Some people think it's due to schools having trunk or treat
events. Which, good for the kids, but terrible for the older "kids" that are
expecting to see lots of costumes at their door. A small part of me is wondering if this will eventually impact the traditional door to door ToT.<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Salem seemed to also have smaller crowds this year on Halloween. I'm in a
couple Salem Facebook groups and the weekends leading up to the day were
definitely record breaking for visitors. Of course, it could partially be that it fell on a
Tuesday. </div><div style="text-align: center;"> </div><div style="text-align: center;">Regardless, we still had fun scaring people and posing for pics. Mrs
Dex and mom are usually the photographers for the night because my costume
does not allow me to handle a phone. Sadly, I don't have any pics to share this year but here's a
video someone else took that I shared on the
<a href="https://www.instagram.com/countdowntohalloweenblog/" target="_blank">Countdown to Halloween Instagram</a>.

<b style="color: #ffa400;">Ahsoka (2023, Disney+)</b><br />
</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
As much as I enjoyed this, this is where they start alienating the casual
fans that haven't watched season upon season of an animated series. It's
still watchable without that knowledge but it's not going to mean a whole
lot to you if you don't know who the main characters were before this.
</div>
<div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div>
<b><span style="color: #ffa400;">Creepshow (S4, Shudder)</span></b>
</div>
<div>
A lot of these have a Tales from the Crypt vibe and that's fine with me! It seemed like a lot of them were "despicable person does bad thing and gets what they deserve." Still plenty of gory, ghoulish fun!<br />
<div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<b style="color: #ffa400;">Mickey & Friends Trick or Treats (2023, Disney+)
</b>
</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
This was a lot better than I was expecting. Maybe it's the stop motion
animation but this was like curling up in a warm blanket of Halloween
nostalgia feels.<br />

<b><u>Movies</u></b>
</div>
<div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I got a free trial of Screambox and have been enjoying it. The one thing
that makes me hesitate to fully sign up is that they don't have a Fire TV
app which is how I watch most apps on TV. It's not like I don't have Shudder
already. How many streaming horror channels do you need?
</div>
<div style="text-align: left;"> </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Over the course of the month, I unintentionally watched four different
movies that take place at a haunted attraction! The third one only partially
but still it was a fun coincidence.<br />
</div>
<div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

</div>
<div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<b><a href="https://amzn.to/3FCL0T6" target="_blank">The Funhouse Massacre (2015, Tubi/Screambox)</a></b>
</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
If you can get through the opening 15-20 minute setup/exposition dump,
you're in for a good time. A Halloween haunt is setup to host escaped serial
killers and naturally, the patrons think it's all part of the show! This one
is definitely a bit jokey in places but it's got some good kills to keep you
entertained.

</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
I saw the first one back in 2019 so I'm fuzzy on the original story details
but this keeps with the original's 80s slasher throwback roots. It almost
reminds me of something Full Moon Pictures would have done in the 90s when
they were still good. The baddie designs are fantastic and there's more
horror icon guest spots than you can shake a severed arm at.<br />

<div style="text-align: left;">
It's got plenty of brutal killing and what could be an interesting villain
but something about it just never clicked with me. I don't know if it's the
acting or the way the story is being told that keeps it from being better
than a generic slasher. It was making me think of Halloween Kills, and
that's not a good thing.

Anthologies can be hit or miss but this one seems to hit for the majority of
it. There's one story that was certainly a weak link for me, but it wasn't
terrible, just a bit predictable. What I really like about the VHS series is
that they always keep me on edge a little because I'm never sure what's
coming next even in the individual stories. The found footage/VHS gimmick is
stretched about as far as it could be in the wraparound segment but I wasn't
thinking about it much while watching.

This is a great example of how to make a ridiculous, fun, cheesy movie. I'm
a sucker for "animals gone awry" flicks anyway but making it something silly
like horseshoe crabs makes it that much better. It's weird and funny which
makes it easy to forgive some of the effects. If anything, they just add to
the schlock value.<br />

even if it's a
<a href="https://youtu.be/Y-ufZuqTd5c?si=HXjwsgji9pHtua9H" target="_blank">bad Quiet Place knockoff with Stanley Tucci</a>. This, however, is just below Freaky and Happy Death Day in the
horror/comedy realm for me. It's a little light on the gore but I think that
makes this a good gateway horror candidate. The 80s stuff is used for humor
to good effect and doesn't try to beat you over the head with nostalgia.<br />

Had it not been for online buzz, I may never have seen this and what a crime
that would have been! I'm not including a trailer because it's best gone
into cold. There is some unexpected, brutal stuff here and it never goes
overboard with the gore which makes it all the more horrifying. The perfect
way to cap off your Halloween night if you need something to get under your

In the vein of my Monthly Media Recap, here are the books I consumed
this spooky season. Many of them are quick reads if you're looking to cram in
a last minute story or two. I was pretty happy with what I knocked out this
year. I started in September to give myself some extra time.
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhsi0FSEs9FesLKnQjChdpPhaJK5-fue2mrSufmnrvwwT9yuj2gwu0HWWE-MNC6Uev_bAwvD_VvQ0K5Qv8ISos50_qb9NNylqjwp9Tq6yVb0RJ-jw59JFiL8Oxd61agIGNC2F_jUssQwEvtAWLkF3mzwfwOpIrRKZq-TagZmij09Qy73damL-s8dQVmnJc/s1000/Halloween%202023%20Books.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="996" data-original-width="1000" height="319" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhsi0FSEs9FesLKnQjChdpPhaJK5-fue2mrSufmnrvwwT9yuj2gwu0HWWE-MNC6Uev_bAwvD_VvQ0K5Qv8ISos50_qb9NNylqjwp9Tq6yVb0RJ-jw59JFiL8Oxd61agIGNC2F_jUssQwEvtAWLkF3mzwfwOpIrRKZq-TagZmij09Qy73damL-s8dQVmnJc/s320/Halloween%202023%20Books.jpeg" width="320" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div>

</div>
</div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
The only non-horror story I read. Set in 1994, this is about a group of young
teens that put together a horror haunt to save their local indie video rental
store run by former 80s horror host Cassondra Dagger. If you're a fan of 80s
kid adventure movies and horror, I give this a strong recommend.

</div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
These are both short reads that are pretty creepy. The puppet one is about a
Sesame Street like TV show and will be a little extra weird if you grew up on
that. The circus one, well, the title says it all. The author is planing on
continuing the "I Found" horror series and I can't wait for the next one.
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/81QqKEjF85L._SL1500_.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="800" data-original-width="571" height="320" src="https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/81QqKEjF85L._SL1500_.jpg" width="228" /></a>
</div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
Shingles is a "not safe for kids" Goosebumps-style comedy horror series. In
this one, 12 year old Jimmy's video game skills come in handy when the zombie
apocalypse breaks out and he takes charge. This may not be for everyone, it
reads like a 12 year old's wish fulfillment. And that's not a knock against
the book, it's just if you can't get on board with the juvenile humor of it,
you probably won't enjoy it.
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://amzn.to/3Mm4COO" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="800" data-original-width="501" height="320" src="https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/71aPblq1S8L._SL1500_.jpg" width="200" /></a>
</div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
Despite the odd cover composition and a handful of grammatical errors, typos,
and even wrong words being used in some places, this was an entertaining 80s
style slasher. It's intended to be a cheezy throwback and it's got all the
elements: a small town with a local legend, the cop who survived an attack out
for revenge, and a supernatural slasher racking up a body count.
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://amzn.to/477qENf" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="800" data-original-width="592" height="320" src="https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/91Pae8OwYmL._SL1500_.jpg" width="237" /></a>
</div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
This collection also includes the novella
<a href="https://amzn.to/3s9Wudu" target="_blank">Halloween Land</a> which I
wish I had known before purchasing both. This is a pretty good collection of
shorts all based around Halloween from different authors. Some were better
than others but I didn't think there were any stinkers in the bunch.
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;"> </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://amzn.to/40e3wdI"><img border="0" data-original-height="800" data-original-width="500" height="320" src="https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/814D7ke6HsL._SL1500_.jpg" width="200" /></a>
</div>
<br /><i> <span>When a fiendish factory foreman is murdered in a sweatshop by the poor
little children he torments, his spirit becomes mysteriously entwined with
a batch of molten plastic and molded into decorative Halloween skeletons.
Determined to return from the realm of the dead, the evil Factory King
will stop at nothing to replace the bones of the living with his cheap
plastic skeleton bones, and walk the earth once more, wearing their flesh
suits as his own. Heh heh heh, ha ha ha!</span></i>
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I had to share the summary for this one because it's so off the wall. This is
tied with the Puppet story above for my favorite read of the season. As freaky
as the Puppet story is, this one is equally just bonkers goofy. I'd love to
see this made into a short film or movie.

If you are a monster memorabilia maven, you're going to want to check
this out of the Library! There is some unbelievably cool stuff that went up
for auction. Of course, since it's already happened, you'll have to be content
with looking at the auction catalog like a kid with a Sears Wishbook.
Honestly, most of this stuff probably went for way more than I could pay for
it anyway.

Back in the 90s, I was helping out at a local haunted house with a
couple friends. It was as small, local thing and most of the 'actors' were
teens. I wasn't getting paid but, seriously, dressing up and scaring people is
something I will do for free any day of the week! This was during my big
Freddy phase so that's who I dressed up as.
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;"> </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj_BZbImjkutYl8x2s5AV5asYTXHlVWgwcl8uES7mMTRGTp9zXfMN3hlramFFIIt3yXMO60laRg8_ZM3KgR01esoRsgJhImodwUONlXl2da0TdtdOaQiEHwTQc2BV1TezfK9sHsNfAoLbpdFGygomAgp5UM6pv9XKe3_y5SgzVB7iheeN1teiKtJ6NczZE/s719/Freddy%20&%20friends.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="506" data-original-width="719" height="281" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj_BZbImjkutYl8x2s5AV5asYTXHlVWgwcl8uES7mMTRGTp9zXfMN3hlramFFIIt3yXMO60laRg8_ZM3KgR01esoRsgJhImodwUONlXl2da0TdtdOaQiEHwTQc2BV1TezfK9sHsNfAoLbpdFGygomAgp5UM6pv9XKe3_y5SgzVB7iheeN1teiKtJ6NczZE/w400-h281/Freddy%20&%20friends.jpg" width="400" /></a>
</div>
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
The haunt was in a huge, mostly empty, three story house. The third floor was
used for dressing rooms. A guide would take each group through the house
starting on the second floor. This floor was mostly large bedrooms, each of
which had its own scene with a jump scare of some kind. A large section of the
first floor was a dark maze. The guide, knowing the maze, would rush through
leaving the group to stumble their way through it. There were spots where
actors would sometimes lurk too. Being the 90s, it was pre-cell phone so no
one had a flashlight and occasionally the guide, or a stranger in the dark,
would need to help them along. </div><div style="text-align: center;"><span><a name='more'></a></span> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgNsyfrXOfmy21HKlTtf6vgDbZ1uUJInibOyOYko4KlpWLLr74Xy3DxN3Hm1cRWjcvOqwtrnIkYXa4gVGRy0w-C1fVugPnafWzzkkeCUB3JIdvM1MiNKKeBDarGSQqGpVwSXLoAKjYFi0m9TkLdH3RPzZV2fcsjTX8ZjMFaZMwP_Qw-zFpnVCZ3wiOtpYk/s1024/Freddy2.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1024" data-original-width="704" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgNsyfrXOfmy21HKlTtf6vgDbZ1uUJInibOyOYko4KlpWLLr74Xy3DxN3Hm1cRWjcvOqwtrnIkYXa4gVGRy0w-C1fVugPnafWzzkkeCUB3JIdvM1MiNKKeBDarGSQqGpVwSXLoAKjYFi0m9TkLdH3RPzZV2fcsjTX8ZjMFaZMwP_Qw-zFpnVCZ3wiOtpYk/w275-h400/Freddy2.png" width="275" /></a></div><br /><div style="text-align: center;"></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Sometimes I would be 'featured' in one of the rooms but mostly I was on line
duty outside keeping the crowd entertained. The mask I had fit very well and
was a little warm when worn a long time, so when anyone would touch it, it was
surprisingly like touching real skin. One of my favorite 'tricks' was seeing
the name on a high schooler's jacket and them having no idea how I knew their
name!
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Anyway, the real reason for all this reminiscing and setup is the glove. When
I started out, I had the run of the mill plastic glove that anyone could buy.
This was all that was available at the time but I used some model paint on it
to make it as screen accurate as I could. Let me tell you, nothing takes the
tension out of a face to face with Freddy when some smart ass grabs your glove
and the plastic blades bend.
</div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
One of the guys I went to high school with was very handy with tools and
surprised me with a hand-made metal glove one year. This was a game changer! I
took the paints to this one too to get it just right.
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
There is something SO satisfying about curling your fingers and then snapping
your hand open to make the glove clack. And now when Joe high schooler tries
to look cool and grab the glove, he has quite a different reaction when he
realizes it's metal. There was a rusty drainpipe on the side of the house that
I would run the glove over. A few times I carried a hand-held chalkboard for
extra crowd torture.
</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;">This glove had a revival in recent years when my stepdad took up the Freddy mantle when we go into Salem on Halloween night. After a few more years of use it had to be retired. </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div>

Welcome to the last Classic Creepy Comics for 2023! Can you believe it's the
Wednesday before Halloween already? This week's feature is The Beyond from Ace
Magazines which ran for 30 issues from November 1950 to January 1955.

In yet another case of a comic company changing a title name, what was to be
Challengers of the Unknown issue #7 became The Beyond issue #1 so technically,
Challengers #6 is The Beyond #0. Because that makes sense.

<div style="text-align: center;"></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
The most notable thing I found about this series is that issue #27 was sited
in Dr. Frederic Wertham's book
<a
href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seduction_of_the_Innocent"
target="_blank"
>"Seduction of the Innocent"</a
>
which warned against the dangers of comic books. In particular, the story
"Strange Potion of Dr Lorch."
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
You can read the full run of The Beyond online for free at
<a href="https://comicbookplus.com/?cid=863" target="_blank">Comic Book+</a>,
including the notorious issue 27 which also has a great story about a dentist
that turns a patient into a werewolf by transplanting all their teeth with dog
teeth. Good stuff!

How about a few more tunes to get you in the holiday spirit while you carve up
a pumpkin (or something else)? They're not all brand new releases but
hopefully they'll be new to you. Clicking on the album cover will take you to
Bandcamp where you can buy the music.

<div style="text-align: center;"> </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
What better way to kick it off than with some hard rockin, coffin knockin
horrorpunk? With 50 tracks, there's sure to be something that will get the
dead on their feet.<br />

<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
One of the stand out bands for me on the above compilation is Lesbian Bed
Death. I'd put them a little more in the goth rock camp than punk but
they're a lot of fun. I'm suggesting this album as it has covers of horror
movie songs like Dream Warriors, He's Back (The Man Behind the Mask), Pet
Sematary, Partytime, and more.

<div style="text-align: center;">
33 more covers on this pay what you want compilation. Includes seasonal
staples like the themes from Halloween, Scooby-Doo, Casper, M*A*S*H* (?!) as
well as Werewolves of London, Monster Mash, and Season of the Witch.

<div style="text-align: center;"> </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
If there's two things I'm a musical sucker for, it's cover songs and
remixes. This album has three Ghostbusters remixes, two of Thriller, Bobby
Brown's On Our Own, Rockwell's Somebody's Watching Me, and even Goo Goo Muck
by The Cramps.

<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /> Made in Halloweenophonic stereo, Halloween Scene's debut album
is the perfect thing to set a dreary mood for your crypt. If I still
collected physical media, I would definitely get this just for the cover!<br />

<div style="text-align: center;">
Monster Classics is not Pitch Black Manor's latest album but it's definitely
one to get your own Monster Mash going. They've got that 80s new wave-weird

I picked up this Mighty Max-style playset a few years ago from Oriental
Trading Company. I usually order some treat bag fillers from them every year
and this was on clearance for a couple bucks. I happened on it this year while
digging out other Halloween stuff.

<div style="text-align: center;">
A transforming playset <b>and</b> mini-monster figures? Sold! I was in my early 20s when Mighty Max came out so I haven't had much exposure to it. Not that I was "too old" for toys then (or now) but it just didn't hit my radar at the time.<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgOdIKW7zdHdSnUY71JU5kUkrAvuFI7QFSJfL2Df0sD1jw58cbWt0_K_Y8WpiWIlsweZoiQYa2mkpfXTH9ZEQox4faGFqv5O62iwarTs-j2Qqbs7MdIjApZYcMiZ0Nw7cfrELvHt8auJQmERnPJF4ZKTURdcNO2jKekJVPT9ANMgaNlq4GNnqCVV__7XgU/s3024/monster%20mayhem%20creepster%20island%20back.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3024" data-original-width="3024" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgOdIKW7zdHdSnUY71JU5kUkrAvuFI7QFSJfL2Df0sD1jw58cbWt0_K_Y8WpiWIlsweZoiQYa2mkpfXTH9ZEQox4faGFqv5O62iwarTs-j2Qqbs7MdIjApZYcMiZ0Nw7cfrELvHt8auJQmERnPJF4ZKTURdcNO2jKekJVPT9ANMgaNlq4GNnqCVV__7XgU/s320/monster%20mayhem%20creepster%20island%20back.jpg" width="320" /></a>
</div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
Apparently there were three sets but OTC only had this one, which is probably
why it was on clearance. If I had my choice of them, I would have gone with
the Mummy Mystery for the Egyptian theme. The top corner mentions a companion
app but that seems to be long gone also. You can

for more details.<br />

</div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
Here is the playset and the monsters. The figures are about as tall as a pair
of LEGO minifig legs. Because all but the skull were hidden in the package, I
think the others could be randomly inserted in each one. Here we've got a
witch, werewolf, ape, and a frog man (I think). They're not super detailed but
for their size, they're okay.
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
There is a button on top of the playset that pops it open and unleashes the
monsters...if you can manage to get them all in there and close it properly.
No easy feat!<br />
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhzePmN3P56-lZtFZVNnIHNz1ADSJZi_6jLjW339znAwkc89Be0Qr1Cy484af56HvL45lMeumFwmRmQJI51J2H3YyeX53fUPCaC7qtNUsHmhllg9Ov9KuU9cC7OhOuV_95smInsXnaTp5HHbcNzrmCNqnUL7Ud8ilLbkeo-j7vb0gnZcrz00OBDqT_CxLI/s3024/monster%20mayhem%20creepster%20island%20open.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3024" data-original-width="3024" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhzePmN3P56-lZtFZVNnIHNz1ADSJZi_6jLjW339znAwkc89Be0Qr1Cy484af56HvL45lMeumFwmRmQJI51J2H3YyeX53fUPCaC7qtNUsHmhllg9Ov9KuU9cC7OhOuV_95smInsXnaTp5HHbcNzrmCNqnUL7Ud8ilLbkeo-j7vb0gnZcrz00OBDqT_CxLI/s320/monster%20mayhem%20creepster%20island%20open.jpg" width="320" /></a>
</div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
And here is the "transformed" playset. The little web is hinged so you can put
a figure inside it. There's some kind of lizard man in the top right with a
moveable tail. The giant spider is...there. The red bits do move but I think
that's more for tossing out the figure you put there when the set opens. And
then there's the stone face with Frito arms. Could be a statue or some kind of
living quicksand monster?<br />
</div>
<div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I don't remember what retail was on this but for a couple bucks, it was
definitely worth it. It seems OTC no longer carries these and even trying to
research it, the most info I found was in the above linked review. I did find
this under "Monster World" on a couple of foreign Amazon sites but they're
sold out there as well. This is what happens when you get around to posting
something you bought years ago!

Thanks to Countdowner (what? it's a word)
<a href="https://www.instagram.com/cheers.withchelsea/" target="_blank">CheersWithChelsea</a>
on Instagram for introducing me to the Punkin Pixie! The Punkin Pixie is sort
of like that other seasonal pointy-eared imp that gained notoriety for just
sitting around, but for Halloween!

<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
A couple weeks ago I was checking out Halloween Instagram posts, as you do,
when I found the most adorable pumpkin person. I immediately clicked on over
to <a href="https://punkinshop.com/" target="_blank">The Punkin Shop</a> to
get one for myself. I didn't know there was also a book when I headed over
there but once I saw it, it was pretty much required to get that also.<br />
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;"> </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjTA0dbvk8_r_lv2QtH19DlKFpOd6wBNOUGXP-r1K4qZ4u5t3deawlXDObU0Xaq6oUl5kX32ljcH-qBzUVL-2qGY3h-EBg55Q5nXzOpVvKci4xDmVwHjE7U8U6Ww5sc9cxIc7IiqAx24-tt7sCk674w4cW_sF-08QKEkFRR2IzUyPxTJXBxpG2eELscW1M/s3024/Punkin%20Shop.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3024" data-original-width="3024" height="200" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjTA0dbvk8_r_lv2QtH19DlKFpOd6wBNOUGXP-r1K4qZ4u5t3deawlXDObU0Xaq6oUl5kX32ljcH-qBzUVL-2qGY3h-EBg55Q5nXzOpVvKci4xDmVwHjE7U8U6Ww5sc9cxIc7IiqAx24-tt7sCk674w4cW_sF-08QKEkFRR2IzUyPxTJXBxpG2eELscW1M/w200-h200/Punkin%20Shop.jpg" width="200" /></a>
</div>
<br /> My Pixie arrived in a Punkin Shop branded cardboard box and it was
actually fun to open! The contents were wrapped in orange tissue paper and
there was jack o'lantern shaped confetti sprinkled inside. The Pixie was
already doing its thing.
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
For some reason, I was just expecting the Pixie to be loose and not be in a
cool box of its own. There was something about seeing the box that went right
to the kid in me and made me even more excited to break it free.
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
By the way, I'm a total sucker for pumpkin-headed people.<br />
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
The book is very cute and tells the story of how Harvest Moon cast a spell to
create the Punkin Pixies to help kids celebrate Halloween all season long.
Like that other squatting critter, they are only active at night, and might move around on their own while getting up to mischief.
